Value Chain Manager

ILRI works to enhance the roles livestock play in pathways out of poverty in developing countries. ILRI is a member of the Consultative Group on International Agricultural Research (CGIAR) Consortium, a global research partnership of 15 centres working with many partners for a food-secure future. ILRI’s headquarters are located in Nairobi, Kenya, and research is conducted in 31 countries in Africa, Asia and Latin America, through funding from over 50 different donors.

The Livestock and Fish (L&F) CGIAR Research Program (CRP), which is led by ILRI, has been designed to achieve transformative change in selected livestock and fish value chains in developing countries around the world. It is vital that interventions effectively address local and country level issues such that supply of technological solutions match and are tailored to local demand. In Viet Nam the L&F Program targets smallholder pig production systems and value chains to improve rural livelihoods and increase the supply of high quality animal source food to urban markets. The L&F pig value chain program includes currently sites in seven provinces in north, central and southern Viet Nam, and is expected to grow and expand for the foreseeable future.

The Position

ILRI seeks to recruit a Value Chain Manager (VCM) to lead the development and implementation of the research for development activities associated with the L&F smallholder pig value chain in Viet Nam, and to develop and manage the national partnerships required for those activities. In addition the VCM will play the lead role in coordinating and implementing ILRI’s planned support to the LIFSAP project of the Government of Vietnam.

Responsibilities

  • Formulating locally grounded country value chain strategies to guide research and intervention activities of the L&F program
  • Developing key national partnerships among relevant government, NGO and private institutions, and coordinating day-to-day activities with partners
  • Overseeing and coordinating the implementation of field activities associated with the L&F program
  • Planning and implementing the development of stakeholder action and learning platforms to achieve desired program outcomes and impact
  • Contributing to and in some cases leading the writing of research outputs
  • Identifying funding opportunities and contributing to proposal development
  • Identifying partner demand for capacity development activities, and coordinating activities to provide those with partners
  • Developing and managing a local profile that effectively portrays the work of CRP the L&F program in Viet Nam

Requirements

  • MSc/MA in animal science, agriculture, agricultural economics or a related field
  • Extensive eexperience in value chains analysis and coordination
  • Experience in supervision and management of field research
  • Experience or familiarity with in pig value chains will be an advantage
  • Ability to conduct basic statistical analysis of primary and secondary data
  • Demonstrated ability to develop and manage strong partnerships
  • Excellent facility in spoken and written English, including demonstrated record of publications
  • Willingness to travel nationally and regionally.
  • Excellent interpersonal skills and an ability to work flexibly in multicultural, multidisciplinary teams.

Terms of appointment:

This is a Nationally Recruited Staff (NRS) positions with a 2 year renewable contract period based at Hanoi, Vietnam and is open only to Vietnamese nationals.

Job level and salary:

This position is job level 3A with an attractive benefits package, including social security, health insurance, unemployment insurance, 13 -month bonus, separation allowance etc.
