Senior Program Officer

IDH – The sustainable trade initiative

IDH is seeking candidates to apply for the position of Senior Program Officer (SPO) of the Spices program in Vietnam. The position will support and implement the goals IDH’s Spices program, which aims to promote socially and environmentally sustainable practices in the Vietnamese spices sector. The SPO will actively promote public-private partnerships and collaborate with various stakeholders, including the Ministry of Agriculture and Rural Development, its relevant departments and agencies, spice associations, the private sector (producers, exporters, cooperatives), and civil society organizations. Additionally, the SPO will collaborate with investment entities and financial institutions to initiate and coordinate efforts to create a more sustainable Vietnamese spices sector.

The position is based in Hanoi and will report to the IDH Vietnam Spices Program Manager.

Your role.

1.    Program Management

  • Provide technical support and coordination for the development and implementation of the PPP Pepper task force plan and act as secretariat for the platform, ensuring effective quality assurance and the program’s overall integrity.
  • Serve as a technical expert and engage externally with various stakeholders on carbon/commodity issues, notably private sector partners.
  • Support the strategic planning process, implementation, and monitoring of the program.
  • Manage annual workplan and budget, identify and contract implementing partners.
  • Proactively identify challenges, problems and issues in program implementation and provides early corrective actions.
  • Collaborate with the program team in Vietnam and global headquarters concerning contracting and contract management.
  • Manage deliverables and progress with consultants and implementing partners as assigned according to IDH reporting guidelines and KPIs. 
  • Produce accurate and timely periodic reports on progress of projects.
  • Coordinate provision of any logistical and administrative support to staff and partners.
  • Perform other duties as required.

2.    Communication and Knowledge Management

  • Coordination, reporting, and knowledge management across the project interventions to enhance learning, programmatic impact, visibility, and coherence about system resilience and sustainability.
  • Ensure project documentation for assigned activities is complete with all required documents and is filed per organization and donor requirements.
  • Deliver presentations of IDH and its program portfolio to ministries, research, and private sector organizations in the fields of agriculture, value chain development, and export promotion.
  • Ensure adequate communication with stakeholders and keep them informed on plans and progress.
  • Maintain and contribute to further development of the networks to strengthen spices and relevant IDH programs.

3.    Fund Raising

  • Conduct a stakeholder and donor mapping analysis to identify potential partners and donors to support the scaling of sustainable practices of spices in Vietnam.
  • Coordinate the fundraising activities and the development of funding proposals for IDH Vietnam and PPP Pepper Taskforce.

Who you are.

IDH is looking for a bright, motivated, and organized team player who can execute assignments quickly, is structured, flexible and accurate. It is easy for you to keep an overview and prioritize when required. You have a background in environmental and/or social sustainability and an ability to articulate an understanding of both domestic and international requirements and learn fast.

What you bring.

Candidates will be selected based on several key criteria:

  • At a minimum, possess a Bachelor’s degree (a Master’s degree is preferred) in economics, agribusiness, development, agriculture or related fields.
  • Strong track record and background in environmental and/or social sustainability of agriculture production and an ability to articulate an understanding of both domestic and international requirements.
  • Possess strong communication and coordination skills.
  • Has experience working with the private sector, preferably related to agriculture commodities such as pepper, cinnamon, or others.
  • Having experience working on GHG emissions reductions in agriculture is required.
  • Fluent in Vietnamese and English.
  • Is familiar with the agriculture supply chain and has strong analytical skills.
  • Knowledge and experience in fundraising is preferred.
  • Has a demonstrated ability to work within a team.
  • Willing to travel within Vietnam.
