Senior Advisors/Forest Landscape Managers ( 2 positions)

Two positions: likely one is based in Hanoi and one in Hochiminh City, Vietnam

SNV has been working in Vietnam since 1995. Using market based approaches, SNV is committed to reducing poverty by catalyzing environmentally sustainable solutions for the poor in agriculture, energy, water & sanitation, and REDD+ (Reducing Emissions from Deforestation and Forest Degradation).

SNV together with Winrock International, the American Red Cross and SRD, will implement the US$26.5 million USAID supported Vietnam Forests and Deltas (VFD) Program. The primary purpose of this program is to accelerate Vietnam’s transition to climate resilient, low emissions development through investments in reducing net emissions from forests, and enhancing resiliency of people, places, and livelihoods in the delta regions to short and long-term climate impacts. The program will primarily invest in provincial and district level demonstration and capacity building, and share lessons learned to inform national policies and implementation. The project intends to have a catalytic role, paving the way for scaled up impact.

The project will be introduced in close consultation and in support of priorities of the relevant Government of Vietnam ministries and departments at the national and local level. We are seeking for highly qualified national candidates for the positions of Senior Advisor/Forest Landscapes Manager to help manage and implement this project.

Responsibilities

- Work closely with provincial and district authorities on implementation of VFD; establish provincial advisory groups and co-chair on a regular basis
- Help facilitate training as necessary to partners, beneficiaries, and counterparts
- Oversee consultants carrying out assessments across the Landscapes
- Work with local partners to design and the overall landscape strategy which promote climate resilient, low emissions development
- Identify and work with private sector entities to introduce sustainable activities
- Oversee capacity building and organisational development
- Work closely with the VFD team in particular the other Provincial Manager, the Sustainable Landscape Team Leader and the Adaptation Team Leader
- Ensure robust monitoring and evaluation system is in place
- Preparation and submission of reports and other deliverables to the Sustainable Landscapes Technical Advisor/Chief of Party

Candidate profile

- University degree in Natural Resource Management, Forestry, or relevant development field
- At least seven year experience in implementing or managing field projects    
- Technical knowledge in forestry, REDD+ and Payment for Ecological Services
- Experience in capacity building and organizational development
- Knowledge of participatory rural appraisal/participatory learning and action techniques; gender analysis; and project planning, monitoring and evaluation skills
- Understanding and ability to work closely with government counterparts
- Good training and facilitation skills
- Excellent interpersonal and oral and written communication skills (English and Vietnamese)
- Good computer skills in MS-applications (Word, Excel, Internet, Email, Power Points)

Contract Duration: One-year associate consultancy contract with a competitive salary package and possibility of extension up to 5 years upon good performance.
