SNV has been working in Vietnam since 1995. Using market based approaches, SNV is committed to reducing poverty by catalyzing environmentally sustainable solutions for the poor in agriculture, energy, water & sanitation, and REDD+ (Reduced Emissions from Deforestation and Degradation).
SNV will introduce a new project in Ca Mau which examines the role of sustainable financing to reduce pressures on mangroves and support mangrove rehabilitation. This project will work in collaboration with IUCN who will lead on the work package on adaptation and market linkages. SNV is seeking a highly qualified national candidate to fill in the post of Senior Advisor Environmental Economics, who will work closely with our partners on the project and with the SNV Vietnam REDD+ Team (see www.snvredd.org) and help develop our operations in the Mekong Delta.

Responsibilities
- Ensure achievement of the project outputs and activities
- Prepare technical reports and annual work plans as required
- Provide input into the Project, in particular with respect to:
- Understanding of mangrove ecosystems
- Sustainable financing options (in particular in relation to REDD+)
- Design pro poor payments schemes
- Coordinate closely with government partners; project supervisors and relevant staff to ensure successful implementation
- Help establish Monitoring, Reporting and Verification system against carbon, biodiversity, and social baselines for the project site
- Oversee consultancy contracts for baseline establishment, economic valuations and carbon assessments
- Support to Global REDD+ coordinator to develop further programs in the Mekong Delta
- Act as spokesperson for SNV on pro-poor REDD+ in Southern Vietnam.

Candidate profile
- Vietnamese citizen
- University degree in Forestry, Environmental Economics  or other relevant discipline
- Knowledge of the issue of Mangroves and Peat Swamp forests; some knowledge of REDD+
- At least 8 years of relevant working experience in project management
- Experience and expertise in relevant development approaches like participative approaches, multi-stakeholder processes
- Track record in program development in Climate Change in the Mekong Delta
- Excellent interpersonal and oral and written communication skills (English and Vietnamese)
- Demonstrated and proven record to work in a multidisciplinary team under changeable and complex circumstances
- Good computer skills in MS-applications (Word, Excel, Internet, Email, Power Points)

Contract Duration: SNV Vietnam offers a one-year associate consultancy contract with the possibility of extension and a competitive salary package.
Desired start date: March/April 2012
