JOB TITLE: Research Manager

POSITION SUMMARY:

Contract type:          Local, fulltime (100% FTE)
Contract duration:    1 year (extension to be based on performance and availability of funds)
Location:                 Ha Noi or Ho Chi Minh City

BACKGROUND:

Center for Development of Community Health Initiatives (CHI) is a locally registered research institution established according to Decision No 1074/Q?-LHHVH under Vietnam Union of Science and Technology Associations (VUSTA). The main activities of CHI focus on implementation of research by conducting pilot studies, operational research and clinical trials. CHI also conducts projects and development initiatives in the field of public health. The organization is currently collaborating with IRD VN and FIT VN to implement the Erase TB project funded by USAID. CHI’s role within this grant is to provide tiered packages of social support to vulnerable TB patients, including cash transfers, transport vouchers, Social Health Insurance enrollment and TB treatment adherence counselling. CHI then monitors this work by conducting research on TB treatment outcomes, catastrophic cost incurrence, quality of life and the impact of stigma on TB patients.  Additionally, CHI is a sub-grantee the CDC Foundation and provides social support for MDR-TB patients while evaluating the impact of this support.

JOB RESPONSIBILITIES:

1.    Challenge Facility for Civil Society Grant Management (60% FTE)

  • Oversee the implementation of the project in remote and ethnic minority communities
  • Ensure donor deliverables are met
  • Provide guidance to the program team for developing a steering group for TB-affected communities
  • Manage grant budget according to best financial practices and organizational policy
  • Develop training materials in collaboration with a graphic artist
  • Oversee the expansion of the existing community network
  • Conduct site visits to review work
  • Co-design programs and materials with representatives of ethnic minority populations
  • Integrate stigma reduction interventions into TB active case finding activities
  • Develop and update codebooks for electronic data collection tools
  • Draft donor reports for international donor and project updates for Vietnamese government departments
  • Disseminate findings among national-level and provincial-level stakeholders, but also among ethnic minority communities

2.    HCD process support (20% FTE)

  • Provide support to the Re-imagining TB Care (RTC) grant
  • Mentor a cohort of Community Engagement Leaders consisting of TB survivors, TB-affected people, care providers, and policy-makers
  • Participate in project planning meetings and capacity building activities on HCD
  • Assist a supplier with ecosystem mapping
  • Provide logistical support for workshops and interviews
  • Provide detailed feedback on tools developed in the HCD process
  • Assist with a market scan of potential product innovations
  • Help evaluate impact, fit and feasibility of scale-up for product innovations
  • Conduct qualitative interviews and stakeholder feedback sessions on product innovations
  • Interface with donors and key stakeholders

3.    Research implementation (20% FTE)

  • Maintain strict standards of patient confidentiality and access to patient-identifiable information
  • Train staff on study protocols and SOPs
  • Monitor staff to ensuring they are following best practices for airborne infection control while conducting interviews
  • Oversee recruitment and follow-up of patient cost, health-related quality of life, and TB stigma surveys
  • Ensure high levels of data quality and completeness
  • Ensure proper sampling in study sites
  • Conduct data quality monitoring
  • Complete donor-reporting narrative updates for monthly & quarterly reports
  • Conduct data analyses
  • Draft, edit and finalize scientific manuscripts

KNOWLEDGE AND SKILLS REQUIREMENT:

  • Bachelor’s degree with four years of relevant experience or Master’s degree required
  • Fluent in Vietnamese and English
  • Excellent communication skills with a wide variety of stakeholders
  • Strong computer skills, including familiarity and comfort with using Microsoft Word, PowerPoint and Excel
  • Flexibility across a range of field- and office-related tasks
  • Good attitude, self-motivated, and ability to work well individually as well as in teams
  • Highly motivated, willing to learn, service-oriented, attention to detail and able to work under high pressure and within a limited time frame
