JOB ANNOUNCEMENT – RESEARCH MANAGER

The University of North Carolina in Vietnam is a research organization of the University of North Carlina at Chapel Hill, USA. Our missions are conducting clinical research on new treatment methods for HIV prevention, TB treatment, mental health in both treatment and behavior changes for people living with HIV, TB patients, men who have sex with men and people who inject drug. Our partners are Hanoi Medical University, Hospitals in Hanoi, Provincial CDCs nationwide. We are conducting both clinical trials of the HIV/AIDS Prevention Trial Network (HPTN) and AIDS Clinical Trial Group (ACTG). In order to expand our operations, we are now seeking a talented and dedicated individual to join our team.

Position:          Research Manager  
                        Full-time, based in Hanoi.

Report to:        In-country Director

Position Summary:

The Research Manager is responsible for the operational management and the oversight of the UNC behavior change and HIV prevention studies for the successful execution of the studies from the protocol concept through the study report, ensuring completion of study deliverables. The Research Manager will oversee the day-to-day study activities to ensure the studies are conducted in compliance with protocols, local and international requirements. By performing these duties, the Research Manager will work with UNC at Chapel Hill experts to support and provide guidance on the administration of the compliance, technical issues, and other related aspects of the study. The Research Manager will work closely with Data Management Manager, Regulatory Manager, Finance and Operation Manager, and Laboratory Manager.

Besides, the Research Manager will cooperate closely with partners such as Vietnam Administration of HIV/AIDS Control (VAAC), Hanoi Medical University (HMU), Hanoi Department of Health, Provincial Centers for Disease Control, and other study partners.

Duties and Responsibilities:

Primary duties and responsibilities for the incumbent of this position may include but are not limited to the following:

  • Manage and coordinate progress of behavior change and HIV prevention studies in the implementation period.
  • Together with VAAC, HMU, study partners and relevant local agencies to co-ordinate the study activities in the field, monitor the study progress to ensure the adherence to the study implementation plan.
  • Provide technical support and efficient day-to-day management to ensure adherence to study protocol, standard operation procedures (SOP), Good Clinical Practice (GCP) regulations and administrative requirements; to identify problems and to resolve problems to ensure quality of the study implementation, security, and quality of the study data.
  • Understand the requirements of the various controlling bodies, agencies, and frameworks, guiding the study in conforming to those requirements and coordinating any necessary audit processes.
  • Liaison with third parties with a view on compliance with Protocol Requirement, Good Clinical Practice, Data Protection and Ethical Requirements.
  • Manage the field budget of the studies in UNC Vietnam.
  • Prepare submission packages for Institutional Review Board approvals and local authority approvals for the study implementation, study protocols, amendments, informed consent forms, study guides, case report forms, and any other study related documents.
  • Oversee performance of study staffs to ensure compliance with their scopes of work; provide appraisals for the staff.
  • Co-ordinate the preparation and publication of data, reports, and information, ensuring that they meet legislative, contractual, and ethical requirements.
  • Work with the Principal Investigators and In-country Director to ensure that the studies meet their targets.
  • Oversight the management of the study materials at UNC Vietnam and study sites.
  • Assure that personal and confidential information is restricted to those entitled to know.
  • Develop and maintain good working relationships among partners
  • Assist development and implementation of other studies of UNC Vietnam; and
  • Perform other tasks as required by In-country Director and Principal Investigators

Required qualifications and skills:

  • Master’s degree in a field related to health, epidemiology, psychology, or equivalent working experiences in relevant fields is required. PhD degree is an advantage.
  • Minimum 5 years of experience working in managing health related studies or research; experience working in health intervention studies or research is an advantage.
  • Experience in quantitative and qualitative data analysis, interpretation, and report.
  • Experience effectively engaging with government health entities and multi-cultural working teams.
  • Strong critical, analytical, organizational skills
  • Good attitude, self-motivated, and ability to work well individually as well as in teams
  • Good time management skills, attention to detail, able to work under tight timeline
  • Strong verbal and written communications skills
  • Fluent spoken and written English
  • Proficiency in Microsoft Office software
  • Familiarity with statistical software research, (SPSS/Stata/EpiData, Nvivo…)
