FULL-TIME RESEARCH ANALYST

at Mekong Development Research Institute (MDRI)

About the job:

We are seeking full-time Research Analysts to join our team of dynamic and committed researchers and consultants here at MDRI, an established research institute that ranked among the top economic institutions in Vietnam by IDEAS: Economics and Finance Research.

The position will give you opportunities to take part/build experience in conducting development projects and delivering high quality reports for international aid agencies and government departments in a wide range of areas such as: education, poverty reduction, environment and climate change, labor and migration, governance, etc. Some of our ongoing/recent projects are:

  • The Vietnam adolescent nutrition and food environment study (with International Food Policy Research Institute (IFPRI)).
  • Public Opinion towards Australia (with Department of Foreign Affairs and Trade, Australia Embassy Hanoi).
  • Qualitative Research on disability-inclusive governance with persons with disabilities (with United Nation Development Programme).
  • Advancing Jurisdictional Sustainability in Vietnam, focusing on the Central Highlands Region (with European Forest Institute).
  • Assessment of childcare demand and supply in Vietnam (with The World Bank).
  • Quang Ngai comprehensive development planning for the period 2021 – 2030, with a vision to 2050 (with Quang Ngai’s Provincial People’s Committee).
  • Research to Improve Systems of Education (RISE) and Development World Management Survey – Vietnam Schools (DWMS) (with UK’s Department for Foreign International Development and University of Minnesota).

As a Research Analyst, you will directly take part in multiple aspects of the project such as:

  • Developing proposals and detailed work plan for research and consultancy projects.
  • Designing survey and research tools (questionnaire, procedure, fieldwork manuals etc.) and conducting fieldwork as part of the project.
  • Processing and analysing quantitative data and/or undertaking qualitative analysis.
  • Participating in developing and delivering project outputs under Lead Researcher’s supervision (findings of research analyses, project reports, workshops, webinars etc.).
  • Liaising with project stakeholders, including clients, local partners, and collaborators.
  • Other duties and actitivities assigned by team leaders.

Qualification requirements:

Minimum qualifications:

  • Vietnamese citizenship required
  • Bachelor’s degree in economics, statistics, social sciences, or a related field with excellent academic records and proven experience in the field of development or academic research.
  • Fluent in English with excellent writing and analytical skills.

Prefered qualifications:

  • Master’s degree in economics, statistics, social sciences, or a related field with excellent academic records (candidates with a degree from a foreign institute are strongly encouraged to apply).
  • Experience in the field of development, academic research, or related work.
  • Fluent in English with excellent writing and analytical skills.
  • Strong capability to perform both independently and in a team.

Other requirements:

  • Willingness to travel within Vietnam for work.
  • Successful candidates are expected to start working as soon as possible.
