About MCD

Centre for Marinelife Conservation and Community Development (MCD) is a Vietnamese non-governmental organization and was established in 2003, working in the field of promoting effective management of marine resources and environment, improving community life and sustainable development in coastal areas.

MCD has had working experience in over ten coastal provinces, mobilizing resources and implementing over 70 projects with different scales, cooperating with domestic and international agencies, organizations and enterprises. MCD projects are focused on two main topics: (1) Natural resource management, marine and coastal environment protection; and (2) Sustainable livelihood, fisheries management and community development

Sustainable livelihood program, fisheries management and community development including a fisheries resource management and protection component to ensure sustainable livelihoods for coastal fishing communities, focusing on capacity building, provide technical assistance and mobilize stakeholder protection and rehabilitation, improve the implementation of co-management policies and regulations in the protection of sustainable fisheries resources, minimize illegal, unregulated and unreported (IUU) fishing.

MCD promotes the integration of cross-cutting themes such as gender equality, environmental protection, climate change response in sustainable livelihood development and management, and technology application in resource management and protection, access to traceability of fishery products, with the participation of community and beneficiary groups in which women are considered to be disadvantaged.

Implementing the 2020-2022 plan, MCD is recruiting candidates for the position of Program Officer - Aquatic Resource Management and sustainable livelihood development.

Job Description

  • Planning, implementing, monitoring, supervising and reporting activities related to the management and protection of fisheries resources for sustainable livelihood development, co-management and application of technologies in data monitoring and traceability of fishery products, community livelihood development at the request of projects that serve MCD’s mission.
  • Coordinating technical expertise, capacity building, practice initiatives and improve the implementation of policies related to the management and protection of fisheries resources for sustainable livelihood development.
  • Participating in conducting technical studies and assessments, communication activities and documenting projects according to related requirements and topics (application of technology in management and protection of aquatic resources, product value chains, sustainable livelihoods including community based tourism development, climate change adaptation, etc.) and MCD media;
  • Organizing the implementation of project work in localities, coordinate and cooperate with relevant partners.
  • Maintaining and implement the project management system in MCD to ensure compliance and increase the efficiency of planning, monitoring and reporting projects;
  • Promoting the participation and cooperation of stakeholders including government, fishing communities, businesses, research institutions and networks of cooperation, contributing to organizational and program development.
  • Performing other duties as required by the Board of Directors.

Requirements:

  • University graduate (postgraduate is an advantage) in one of the relevant fields / majors and fields such as: fisheries, economics, technology, environmental resources, environmental economics, and sustainable development. Having at least 5 years of work experience;
  • Interested and knowledgeable in fisheries resources conservation and development, policies and practices including co-management; sustainably exploiting aquatic products, developing environment-friendly livelihoods in coastal areas
  • Ability to use English fluently in communication and working (speaking and writing skills);
  • Interested and knowledgeable in applying electronic technology in aquatic resource management and livelihood development, including traceability and data analysis
  • Experience and skills to coordinate project management;
  • Ability to research, analysis, synthesizing and reporting skills
  • Ability for good communications and presentation by topic;
  • Eager for learning and sharing, working in groups, being able to go on business trips at home and abroad

Work place and deadline:

  • Selected candidates will work at the Head Office of MCD in Hanoi and go on a local business trip as required by the job.
  • The estimated time of work begins on August 1, 2020 (12-month contract) and can be extended according to the needs and commitments of both parties.
