Participant for the 2015 International Seminar in Hanoi

Uniterra is a major Canadian international volunteer cooperation program jointly operated by WUSC and CECI. It promotes the exchange of expertise, knowledge and know-how between volunteers from Canada and overseas partners of the global South. Uniterra strives to contribute to the improvement of the socio-economic conditions of local communities in 14 countries in Africa, Latin America, the Caribbean and Asia.

In November 2015, Uniterra will be hosting a two and a half-week International Seminar (IS) in Hanoi, Vietnam, which will bring together 24 young entrepreneurs and social innovators from Canada, Vietnam, Sri Lanka and Nepal. The theme of the Seminar will be “Youth Leaders in Entrepreneurship.” The key objectives of the Seminar are: (i) to develop the participants’ entrepreneurial skills, (ii) to deepen their understanding of youth employability, social innovation and entrepreneurship in Asia and Canada, and (iii) to provide recommendations on how the Uniterra program can better support young entrepreneurs through its programs.

We are now seeking six (6) Vietnamese young entrepreneurs and social innovators to participate in this Seminar in November 2015.

Responsibilities:

  • Conduct a short research and prepare a presentation on the state of youth employability and entrepreneurship opportunities for young people in Vietnam (prior to departure for the Seminar);
  • Share your experienceof working with youth networks and associations in Vietnam;
  • Share and discuss the issues concerning youth employability and entrepreneurship in Vietnam;
  • Participate in the workshops, trainingsessions, and other activities during the two-week
  • Seminar to improve entrepreneurial skills (e.g. leadership, sales pitch for the project, etc.);
  • Develop conclusions and recommendations in relation to this year’s theme, in collaboration with the other Seminar participants
  • Participate in the intercultural exchanges;
  • Reflect on potential platforms or mediums to better connect youth with one another, and/or to instill a culture of peer to peer coaching within or outside their communities (common interactive platform, social media, networks, etc.);
  • Ensure the participation and representation of women and men in all activities;
  • Prepare and draft reports required by the coordinators and Uniterra program.

Selection Criteria:

  • Be between 18 and 35 years of age;
  • Have an interest in and/or experience related to issues of youth employability and youth entrepreneurship;
  • Show an interest in international development and international issues;
  • Be involved in a social innovation enterprise, business or venture that will have a positive impact in your community;
  • Have present or past involvement in social causes;
  • Be open to sharing the Seminar's results with Uniterra and its network of contacts after the return;
  • Have a good academic record;
  • Be open-minded;
  • Be able to work efficiently as part of a team;
  • Be flexible and adaptable;
  • Is comfortable with speaking in public;
  • Have strong analytical, research and reporting skills;
  • Fluent in English (oral and written);
  • Is available for the full two and half weeks in November.

Period: 2.5 weeks (November 14th- 28th, 2015)

Starting date: November 14th, 2015

Location: Based in Hanoi with occasional travel to the field.
