INTERNSHIP OPPORTUNITY

As a federal enterprise, the Deutsche Gesellschaft für Internationale Zusammenarbeit (GIZ) GmbH supports the German Government in achieving its objectives in the field of international cooperation for sustainable development. The priority area “Environmental policy and sustainable use of natural resources” is covered by the “GIZ Green Cluster”. The Green cluster currently comprises a total of four teams in the thematic areas of climate policy, coast and water, agriculture, biodiversity, and forests, including: the project “Reducing health risks in the wild animal trade in Viet Nam” (Alliance project) and the bridging work package “Management of protected areas, which unite different eco-systems” (SFF).

The project is offering an internship opportunity with details below.

National Intern
Station: Hanoi, Viet Nam
Duration: 6 months, starting from February 2023

Main activities:

The Intern will learn and practice to perform the specific tasks by supporting the project team in following activities:

  • Providing assistance to project teams in internal meetings and discussions (e.g., protocol preparation, minute meeting notes, meeting’s coordinator, etc.), when needed;
  • Supporting research activities, including elaboration of ideas/concepts, TOR, data collection, desk research, drafting reports; present specific topics during technical exchanges within the team;
  • Supporting the organization of meetings between the project and partners as required;
  • Providing support to control the quality of technical activities and deliverables;
  • Participating in weekly team meetings, technical exchanges;
  • Participating in thematic meetings, workshops organized by partners and reporting to the teams;
  • Participating in and supporting the organization of field trips;
  • Translating documents when needed (English and Vietnamese);
  • Performing other duties and tasks where relevant.

Requirements:

  • Vietnamese citizen who is currently undertaking (at least third year of study) or has recently completed postgraduate/ bachelor studies in forestry, environment, economics, or related majors, no longer than six months from the date of graduation
  • Being able to take a full-time internship (40 hours/week)
  • Having an interest in the prevention and control of zoonotic diseases from wildlife farming and the protected area management is an asset.
  • Previous experience in international development cooperation is an asset
  • Good communication skills in English and Vietnamese
  • Strong MS Office, organizational, and analytical skills
  • Highly motivated to learn and to contribute to reducing health risks in the wild animal trade and protected area management in the context of legal/institutional framework in Vietnam
  • Highly responsible, flexible, result-oriented, and constructive as a team member.
