The Swiss Red Cross (SRC) is a member of the International Federation of the Red Cross and Red Crescent Societies; it is part of a global network of 189 National Societies. The purpose of the Swiss Red Cross’ activities is to protect the lives, health and dignity of human beings worldwide and the Swiss Red Cross is active in a  large number of humanitarian programmes.

The SRC has officially opened its Country Coordination Office in Hanoi, Vietnam, in 2012. SRC in Vietnam works in close collaboration with the Vietnam Red Cross Society (VNRC), particularly in the sectors of WASH, Rural Development and Community-Based Disaster Risk Reduction. Since more than 5 years, the Swiss Red Cross
has supported a partnership project with the Vietnam Red Cross Society in Community-Based Disaster Risk Reduction, located in the most vulnerable communes in Ca Mau Province. Other current project activities aim to strengthen the partner’s capacities in Cash Transfer Programming and technical coordination of shelter activities in the country.

The mission of the SRC Country Coordination Office includes providing technical support in the areas of Organizational Development, Capacity Building in Operational & Financial Management, Project Cycle Management, and monitoring and evaluation of SRC funded projects in the country. Coordination with the wider Red Cross Movement in Vietnam and external stakeholders also forms part of our daily activities.

Purpose of the Job

The main purpose of the advertised position is to provide Monitoring and Evaluation support to the project staff and the team of the SRC delegation office. Main tasks will include compilation of data related to monitoring of project activities, supporting data preparation and analysis and documentation of SRC’s work in Vietnam. The person in this role will further provide general project and administrative support to the team. To fill this internship position, we are looking for a talented, dynamic, and highly motivated person to join our team. You have recently completed your studies in Social Sciences or a related field, and are interested in learning about humanitarian work and the NGO environment in Vietnam, as well as the wider Red Cross and Red Crescent Movement, through an intensive, practical internship.

You have a high degree of initiative and flexibility and you are able to apply your skills efficiently to any task assigned to you. You should be interested in being exposed to all aspects of our work, including project implementation, finance, administration and be willing to travel to the field occasionally. You are a team player
who is willing to support your colleagues where needed and you have a positive outlook on life and work.

Major Duties and Responsibilities

1. Data Collection and Analysis

  • Familiarize with the SRC tools and approaches to Project Cycle Management, particularly Monitoring and Evaluation, and annual outcome monitoring processes.
  • Under guidance, further develop and manage data collection tools to facilitate information collection and monitoring of project activities, compile and enter information collected into the SRC’s data collection system, and clean and prepare data sets for analysis.
  • Keep the databases used and the tracking system of beneficiaries up to date for monitoring and evaluation purposes.
  • Support the analysis of collected data and the reporting against output indicators as defined in project log frames.
  • Explore usefulness and suitability of available open source monitoring and evaluation tools such as Kobo toolbox, to apply for monitoring and evaluation in SRC projects.
  • Provide creative and proactive input to maintain, improve and strengthen the tools and processes applied.
  • Independently conduct interviews of beneficiaries, collect feedback, write stories of beneficiaries and case studies or articles, to promote collection of feedback, lessons learnt, and sharing experiences and within the project.
  • Collect and organize communication materials and documentation (photos, videos, interview notes, etc.) to document the work of the Swiss Red Cross and its partners.
  • Occasionally, accompany other team members on trips to the field to monitor project activities and support the Project Officer in the field.

2. Administrative Responsibilities

  • Support administration and logistics within the team, including: taking minutes of meetings; making travel arrangements, or taking care of office supplies and small purchases.
  • Undertake written translations of documents from English to Vietnamese and vice versa if required.
  • Support the Country Coordinator in meetings, interpreting Vietnamese into English and vice versa.
  • Contribute to monthly reporting in English by collecting and presenting relevant information, include visualizations of data and support formatting.
  • Updating and supporting the management of the internal filing system.
  • Assisting the SRC Team in Hanoi in other daily tasks as required and as assigned by the Line Manager or the Country Coordinator.

Academic Qualification

  • A University Degree in Social Sciences or a related field is required, obtained with high academic achievements.

Knowledge and Skills

Suitable candidates should fulfil the following requirements:

  • Having a strong background in both quantitative and qualitative data analysis methodologies and a good understanding of statistical methods, as well as the ability to visually present and summarize data.
  • Having strong computer skills, particularly in Microsoft Office applications. Advanced knowledge of excel and basic understanding of statistical data analysis software, as well as in Photoshop are an advantage.
  • Demonstrating excellent attention to details, with a focus on accuracy and ability to detect and correct errors or discrepancies.
  • Being proactive, well organized and responsible, respecting deadlines and demonstrating a willingness to learn and strive for self-improvement.
  • Having the ability to work both independently and as a part of a multicultural team, and demonstrating good communication and interpersonal skills.
  • strong quantitative and qualitative data analysis skills.
  • Be interested to become a creative, constructive and contributing member of the team, proposing innovative and practical solutions.
  • Identifying with and committing to values and principles of the Red Cross and Red Crescent Movement.
  • Any experience related to monitoring and evaluation, statistical analysis or experience in a similar setting will be considered an asset.

Languages

  • Good communication skills (fluency in both written and spoken communication) in Vietnamese and
  • English, with the ability to communicate clearly and effectively with different stakeholders.
