Background:
The Asian Turtle Program was established in 1998 and incorporated into the Cleveland Metroparks Zoo/Cleveland Zoological Society’s Asia regional program in 2003. 

The aim of ATP is to create a safe and sustainable future for Asian turtles, and to ensure that no further turtle species become extinct in the region. We implement strategic interventions that directly contribute to the conservation of Asian turtles through developing capacity, strengthening leadership, and ultimately effecting positive attitudinal and behavioral change within society.

Scope of work:
The Local Project Coordinator will oversee management of key program activities within the central Vietnam project area from Thua Thien Hue south too Khanh Hoa province.  Work is focused on priority turtle species including the Vietnamese Pond Turtle (Mauremys annamensis), Bourret’s Indochinese Box Turtle (Cuora bourreti) and the Lesser Indochinese Box Turtle (Cuora picturata).  With local project teams conducting interview and field surveys, community awareness activities and the establishment of a Species Habitat Conservation Area (SHCA) and Turtle Assurance Colony (TAC). 

The local project coordinator is responsible for ensuring work activities are completed on schedule following work plans with monthly progress reports, and survey reports completed.  The Local Program Coordinator will also regularly meet with the Forest Protection Department (FPD) and local government authorities on activities relating to the project and be responsible for helping the Program Coordinator with development of budgets, schedules and work plans for the overall ATP activities.

Main responsibilities:
- Manage work plan and survey schedules for activities
- Complete monthly reports and survey reports for activities completed in central Vietnam
- Manage budgets and finances for activities in central Vietnam
- Analyze and report on the results of research activities
- Assist to Field Officer with Community meeting, school program, training and wildlife crime advocacy activities
- Assist to Turtle Assurance Colony captive manager with construction and management of the Turtle Assurance Colony (TAC) and Species Habitat Conservation Area (SHCA)
- Manage the Field Officer and local count-parts to ensure work is completed following the instruction
- Assist with other turtle-related projects activities as required

Desired qualifications:
- University degree in a related field, forestry, biology etc., post graduate degree preferred
- Two years or more work experience
- High level of English language, spoken and written
- Experience working with conservation or NGO field
- Committed to conservation of Vietnam’s wildlife
- Competent in computers, words, excel, PowerPoint and Email
- Ability to successfully manage a small team
- Strong communication skills and an ability to work with local communities and local government officials

Additional skill preferred
- Basic knowledge of GIS software such as ArcView
- Strong communication skills and an ability to work with local communities and local government officials
- Field survey skills

Contract Duration: the contract will be for one-year with the possibility of continued extension with a competitive salary package and benefits.
