Interpreter cum knowledge management and administrative assistant

Background

United States Forest Services (USFS) International Program (IP) has been supporting the Government of Vietnam (GoV) since 2013 in various sustainable landscape initiatives. Most notably, USFS/IP support includes programs to build capacity within GoV to legislate, detect and deter forest crimes; detect and address forest cover degradation and depletion; prepare and respond to natural disasters; and achieve ambitious goals related to climate change reduction and adaptation. Considering the growing portfolio, and significant increase in activities, capacity building events, and produced documents, USFS/IP has identified the need to secure the services of an interpreter cum administrative assistant that will support the implementation of the timber legality and climate change programs, through providing interpretation and translation services, administrative, and knowledge management.

Location of Work

Position may be located wherever the program manager and the consultant agree is most beneficial for all parties, including the consultant’s home/office. Travel within Vietnam as the program requires may be necessary.

Objective

Provide timely support to the implementation of the timber legality and climate change programs, through providing interpretation and translation services, administrative, and knowledge management

Qualifications

The consultant should have the following skills:

• University Degree (BSc. or equivalent) in languages, communication, or related topics;
• Minimum of 5 years of experience with translation and interpretation between Vietnamese and English language, preferably on topics related to forest management, climate change, and natural resources management;
• Minimum of 5 years of with knowledge management, including database management, virtual meetings facilitation, report archiving and filing, etc.
• Experience with organizing training workshops for diverse number and profile of participants; and
• Experience with program communication and knowledge sharing 

Duties

• Provide timely interpretation services to the Climate Change and Timber Legality Programs, including interpretation of regular meetings with GoV counterparts, interpretation at workshop and training events, study tours, and other official activities;
• Provide timely translation services for documents produced and/or shared within the USFS/IP timber legality and climate change programs;
• In close consultation with USFS/IP Vietnam Chief of Party and other USFS/IP team members, support the planning, delivery, and documentation of training, workshops, and other program activities;
• Support the development of USFS/IP communication materials and
• Facilitate visits by international partners to Vietnam and by Vietnamese partners internationally, including travel to the United States as necessary.

Period of Performance

18 months with possible extension upon the need and funding availability and competitive remuneration package would be offered to successful candidate.
