1. BACKGROUND

Passerelles numériques (PN), a non-profit organisation, is dedicated to enabling highly disadvantaged youths, through their abilities and their commitment, to access education and technical and vocational training, in the sector of Information Technology. We work to build strong employability which will allow them and their families to sustainably escape poverty, and contribute to the social and economic development of their countries.

Established in Cambodia, the Philippines and Vietnam, Passerelles numériques currently trains 513 students. PN employs 100 people based in these three countries including a small team in France.

Passerelles numériques relies on the financial and skills sponsorship of several corporate partners such as Accenture, Econocom-Osiatis, CA Technologies, Microsoft and Société Générale and also receives support from individual donors.

In Vietnam, Passerelles numériques started its mission in 2010, with a training centre based in Da Nang, in Central Vietnam. In 2012, the first class graduated with 27 students, and most of them had a job just after graduation. Today, PN Vietnam (PNV) trains 100 students and graduated 163 young disadvantaged since 2010.

2. CONTEXT AND MISSION

Passerelles numériques is looking for an intern to support the Selection team of PN Vietnam located in Da Nang.

Under the direct supervision of the Selection coordinator, the intern will support the Selection team to run effectively the last steps of the selection process (written tests, motivation interviews, social investigations and final committee) and contribute to select the next 45 students.

S/he will mainly support the team to prepare the material and logistic for each trip, to report the data carefully and to join the social investigation team to do the families visits in 7 provinces of central Vietnam.

3. DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES

Preparation of the each Selection steps:

  • Support the Selection Team to prepare all the materials & logistic needed for the written tests and interviews trip and for the Social Investigation trips.
  • Assist the Selection Team to prepare all the materials for the final selection meeting (Final Committee) to evaluate the candidates and choose the next 45 students.

Participation to the trips:

  • Written test and Interviews:
    • If required, join the Selection Team to go to the schools in the targeted provinces to supervise the written tests and do related tasks.
    • If the intern goes to the trips to the provinces with a foreigner, s/he will interpret the interviews with students from Vietnamese to English and vice versa.
  • Social Investigation:
    • Conduct social investigation in the families of selected students to define their social situation according to PN Vietnam methodology with the Selection Team.
    • Explain the “Student Contract” to the family and to the student.
    • Maintain the good relationship with selection partners on the field.

Reporting

  • Do the data inputs for the whole selection process: written test results, motivation interviews records and families’ visits records.
  • Do the data inputs for the ranking of students by criteria (provinces, high schools, age, gender…) 
  • Translate selection documents from Vietnamese to English / English to Vietnamese.
  • Do other administrative tasks required by the Selection Team: preparing & ensuring sufficient quantity of materials, filling incoming and outgoing letters, making advance payment and claiming expenses for the trips.

4. SKILLS AND EXPERIENCE

GENERAL SKILLS

  • Excellent communication and organization skills
  • Proficient in Microsoft Office: Excel, Word, PowerPoint, Outlook...

SPECIFIC SKILLS

  • Good capacity of adaptation
  • Dedicated and involved to the project
  • Rigorous, self-demanding and analytical mind
  • Autonomous and dynamic
  • Capable to drive a motorbike in remote and mountainous areas if required
  • Good socio-economic knowledge of Vietnam will be a plus

LANGUAGES

  • Fluent Vietnamese
  • Excellent level of English (spoken and written language is English at the office)
