Film Producer

Background:

The Oxford University Clinical Research Unit (OUCRU) is a large-scale clinical and public health research unit based in Viet Nam. We are hosted by the Hospital of Tropical Diseases (HTD) in Ho Chi Minh City, and the National Hospital for Tropical Diseases (NHTD) in Hanoi. We are mainly supported from the Wellcome Trust UK since our establishment in 1991.

Along with the development of sciences and technologies in the region, there is an urgent need for a better understanding and communication of science and health issues in the social, cultural and historical context of our research communities. In this light, the OUCRU Public Engagement team works to strength research partnerships by bringing communities and scientists together. (http://www.oucru.org/)

I’m a Scientist, Get me out of here! (‘Chat v?i Nhà khoa h?c’ for the Vietnam version) is an online event where secondary school students meet and interact with scientists. Over two weeks of events students can get to know a group of scientists and ask questions and have live online chats with them.  In the final week the students vote for the winning scientist who will receive a schools engagement prize.

This project is adapted from a version of the UK project with the same name. We are piloting phase 1 in Ho Chi Minh City in May 2016. For more details about the project visit these websites:

Appointment:

OUCRU is looking to employ a professional film maker/ group on a short term service contract to work on the “I’m a Scientist” project in May 2016.

Main responsibilities:

We are looking to develop a short film to explain the event and promote it to a second wave of teachers, students and scientists throughout Vietnam in next phases. Filming will take place in Ho Chi Minh City between Monday 9th May and Friday May 13th. We expect around 3 days of filming in order to get a mix of schools and also time to film the scientists who are based in HCMC too.

1. A short 60-second film for viewing by school children.
2. A 3-minute film for teachers.
3. A 3-minute film for scientists.
4. All the films as above with English subtitles added.

There would be considerable overlap between the three films. They would need to be finished by 15th July 2016.

Required skills

  • Proficient in working with video equipment and editing software.
  • Evidence of having made creative and aesthetic films.
  • Experience of filming with children and professionals would be helpful.
  • Good English writing and communication skills.
  • The successful applicant will need to supply all required equipment.
