We are looking for a local qualified candidate to fill the position of Development Manager at our office in Vietnam:

POSITION PROFILE

The Development Manager (DM) reports directly to the Chief of Staff (COS) and works with staff from all AIP Foundation offices in order to secure funding for the organization including for programs, operations, and staffing. To achieve this, the DM develops and oversees the implementation of organization-wide fundraising strategies. This position is responsible for managing a development team of several staff across AIP Foundation offices, executing training, and ensuring that the team works in line with the fundraising strategies. In addition, the DM works closely with AIP Foundation’s programs, finance, monitoring & evaluation, and communications teams to ensure effective proposal
development, reporting, and communications to donors.

KEY RESPONSIBILITIES

Development strategy and implementation

  • Work with CEO and COS to review the 5-year global development strategy
  • Work with Country Directors to develop and/or revise country fundraising strategies
  • Develop detailed 5-year development budget, and revise annually
  • Remain up-to-date with current fundraising trends; annually review the strategic fundraising/development environment and identify changes to the strategy
  • Revise plans and develop new initiatives (short-term projects)
  • Work with development team to create annual work plans
  • Ensure efficient implementation of the strategy
  • Work with development team to create internal reports on progress towards strategy implementation.

Development processes, databases, and document management

  • Develop, implement, and supervise development processes across the organization
  • Maintain an updated development manual
  • Work with development team to maintain an efficient database/CRM
  • Oversee development staff in managing documents and ensure consistent data entry.

Identifying funding opportunities

  • Cultivate relationships with current donors from corporates, foundations, and government aid agencies to ensure renewal of contracts
  • Research and develop plans to access multi-lateral and bi-lateral aid sources
  • Nurture new relationships with corporates and foundations to secure new contracts
  • Liaise with individual donors through meetings and networking events
  • Oversee online giving platforms to maximize donations
  • Supervise the creation of profiles of potential funders; and the effective follow-up of leads
  • Assess the utility of supporting materials such as annual reports, brochures, collections of personal stories, newsletter; advise the Communications team in the development of those materials.

Proposal development

  • Guide the program teams to design “grant winning” projects
  • Oversee the development process for all new proposals, including the necessary meeting scheduling, contributions from key staff, and budgeting decisions
  • Along with Chief Executive Officer and Chief of Staff, responsible for approving final versions of all proposals
  • Develop narrative of AIP Foundation’s core services. This requires working with counterparts throughout the organization to improve key proposal components, including:
    • Collaborate with the development and communications team to develop standardized proposal text
    • Support the monitoring and evaluation team to develop standardized impact figures and frameworks, including fatalities/injuries prevented, cost-savings, indirect/direct beneficiaries, and logical frameworks.
    • Support the program teams to develop standardized project design components and frameworks
    • Support the finance team to develop standardized price schedules and overhead, staffing,and contingency percentage criteria for all proposals.

Grant agreement, compliance, and reporting

  • Lead grant agreement negotiations; draft or revise agreements; coordinate feedback from programs, finance and CEO/COS; coordinate signing of agreement
  • Conduct kick-off meeting to inform relevant departments (program, M&E, communications, and finance) of their responsibilities related to the grant
  • Oversee grant compliance, including compliance with relevant rules and regulations
  • Identify any gaps in compliance, and research, propose and implement solutions to key concerns
  • Revise and maintain an updated calendar of reports
  • For cross-country project reports, assign development staff to work with programs, M&E and finance teams to gather quantitative and qualitative information from project activities.

Donor liaison and external representation

  • Manage ongoing relationships with existing partners and where relevant, leverage those relationships to greater impact
  • Coordinate with country directors, programs and operations to ensure smooth donor field visits
  • Represent AIP Foundation at national and international meetings, conferences, seminars, workshops

Staff Management

  • Oversee the workload and performance of the Development department
  • Coordinate with the development teams to ensure all relevant tasks are completed
  • Conduct annual appraisals with the Development department
  • Actively take part in assisting the professional development of the development team

Other

  • Conduct weekly development meetings
  • Assist the CEO and COS as requested

REQUIREMENTS: QUALIFICATIONS, EXPERIENCE, SKILLS

Qualifications:

  • Bachelor’s degree required; graduate degree preferred (but not required given adequate experience)
  • 5-10 years of experience with non-profit fundraising; preferable if experience is focused on international public health while located directly in a low- to middle-income country
  • Proven success cultivating and managing donations from diverse sources: individuals, corporations, foundations, and governments
  • Experience with bilateral and multilateral funding sources
  • Demonstrated interest in international road safety; previous experience and current connections within international road safety field a plus
  • Exceptional verbal and written communication skills; ability to explain and provide accurate, current information for complex public health issues.
  • Experience managing a team of junior staff members
  • Understanding of current fundraising trends and tools
  • Native English speaker
  • Proficiency in standard software programs (Microsoft Office, Adobe, etc.)
  • Willing to travel up to 1/4 of work time
  • Experience building and maintaining donation databases through common softwares (i.e. Podio, or Salesforce)

  • Honesty and integrity in managing sensitive internal and external matters
