Counselor

The Clinton Health Access Initiative (CHAI) works to help build the public health system’s capacity to address the HIV epidemic in Vietnam. They work in particular to strengthen care and treatment programs, improve the laboratory system, and address prevention of transmission from HIV-infected mothers to their children (PMTCT).  
CHAI seeks to hire a full-time Counselor to improve the capacity of health workers to provide counseling services to children and adults before and during the HIV testing and care and treatment services. The Counselor will report to the Program Coordinator.

Work place:  Hanoi, Vietnam

Main Responsibilities
The CHAI Counselor has a high level of responsibility to improve counseling quality, both via on-site work and during national trainings and guideline development.
I. Program management
1. Work with CHAI’s pediatrics team on all aspects of program design and implementation related to counseling.
2. Maintain a close working relationship with Provincial AIDS Committees (PACs) in order to successfully carry out the program objectives together.
3. Coordinate with project team in preparing quarterly and annual reports.
II. Training, Mentoring, Monitoring and Evaluation
1. Provide HIV treatment adherence and disclosure trainings
2. Provide technical support to improve counseling skills of Out-Patient Center (OPC) counseling staff
3. Monitor activities in the field to ensure effective implementation
III. Communication and translation
May be required to translate for the clinical expert and other foreigner staff, as needed, and to liaise and negotiate with local partners in provinces.

Skills and Experiences

Required:
Graduate degree in psychology, counseling, or related subject
1. Two years experience working in development projects or health settings
2. Excellent written and spoken Vietnamese and fluent in English
3. Excellent interpersonal skills
4. Proven ability to problem solve and think proactively
5. Ability and willingness to travel for extended periods in remote and difficult areas
6. Good computer skills, especially with Microsoft Word and Excel, and in internet-based communications

Preferred:
Medical or public health degree
7. Understanding of HIV/AIDS care and treatment and if in pediatric care and treatment
8. Familiar with NGO work in Vietnam

Salary: Based on skills and experience. Duration: 12 months and extendable based on performance and funding
