Consultant for Case Study Design and Documentation

The project "Sustainable Forest Management and Biodiversity Conservation" (VFBC) is funded by the United States Agency for International Development (USAID) and implemented for 5 years from July 2020 to June 2025. The project's objectives are to reduce greenhouse emissions, increase carbon sequestration from production forests that are natural forests and plantations in Vietnam, and conserve biodiversity in forest areas with high biodiversity value in the country.

Sub-Component 6, Component 2 of the project implemented by Helvetas Vietnam aims to improve livelihoods for communities living in buffer zones of national protected areas through promoting conservation-friendly enterprises and production. The 3 main groups of activities of Sub-Component 6 include: 1) Increasing incomes through developing sustainable, efficient, and forest-friendly NTFP and high-value agriculture value chains; (2) Increasing incomes & job generation through community-based ecotourism; and (3) Providing employment and income opportunities for hunters, illegal loggers, and their families.

So far, the Project activities have gained some encouraging results. Significant changes in the performance of some selected value chains and CBET sites have been observed, specifically the changes in the targeted socio-economic indicators related to livelihood improvement and biodiversity conservation.  In order to document the successful cases as lessons learned to share with relevant stakeholders and the wider audience, Helvetas Vietnam is looking for a qualified local consultant with experience in project documentation to help the SA1 team compile three successful cases in the English language with publication quality.

The documentation is expected to capture the overall picture of the selected cases before and after the project interventions, identify the factors contributing to the success, and elucidate the changes in the target communities' forest dependency level and the overall contribution of livelihood improvement to biodiversity conservation. Fieldwork will be carried out in the project target areas where the cases are selected.
