Veterinarians without Borders/Vétérinaires sans Frontières (VWB/VSF) provides volunteer placements for veterinarians and other animal and public health professionals. VWB/VFS is currently co-funding the 7-year (2020-2026) Volunteers Engaged in Gender Responsive Technical Solutions (VETS) project with Global Affairs Canada (GAC). The VETS project utilises the skills of volunteers to support smallholder farmers, primarily women, to reduce poverty by improving family income and nutrition principally through improved production of livestock and crops. The project is built around the One Health concept, which recognizes that the health of people, animals and the natural environment are interconnected. It promotes the production of more and better food and increased incomes from livestock, all the while promoting land rehabilitation and conservation for sustainable development.

VWB/VSF is currently seeking an experienced Vietnamese national to coordinate the VETS project in Vietnam. The Vietnam Country Coordinator will lead partnership development, volunteer management, safety and security, and communications, and support VWB/VFS’s partner organization with the planning, implementation, monitoring and evaluation, and administrative and financial management of the VETS project. Candidates will have previous experience managing or coordinating international donor funded projects focused on animal health, agriculture, environment, public health, or related fields in Vietnam. Other desired qualifications, skills and experience include:

  • Tertiary qualifications in a related discipline (such as Animal Health, Agriculture, Environment, Public Health, International Development), preferably at the postgraduate level.
  • 3-5 years of experience in program management/coordination in an international development/humanitarian organization.
  • Some understanding of the principles and practices of the One Health approach.
  • Strong experience in project cycle management, including planning, budgeting, implementation, monitoring and evaluation, and reporting.
  • General finance, administration, and information management skills.
  • Demonstrated ability to engage and motive teams/working groups of partners and stakeholders (government agencies, academic institutions, community organizations, smallholder farmers, and international volunteers) towards achieving a common goal.
  • Excellent time management skills, and the ability to prioritize, organize, work independently, and take initiative.
  • Good knowledge of local legal processes and compliance procedures, especially in relation to organization registration, project approvals, and visas/work permits.
  • Professional working proficiency in spoken and written English, and ability to act as an English-Vietnamese interpreter.
  • Effective cross-cultural communication skills.
  • Advanced computer skills including proficiency in Microsoft Office.
  • Commitment to the principles of volunteer cooperation and familiarity with participatory approaches to development, including the promotion of gender equality, good governance, and environmental sustainability.

The successful candidate will be offered a one-year (renewable) contract starting in July 2022. The position will be based in Hanoi with travel to VETS project sites in Thai Nguyen province.
