Project Coordinator, HIV Prevention, Care and Treatment

The Partnership for Health Advancement in Vietnam (HAIVN), a collaboration between Harvard Medical School (HMS), Beth Israel Deaconess Medical Center (BIDMC), and Brigham and Women’s Hospital (BWH), seeks to develop capacity for high quality medical education, medical research and healthcare quality in Vietnam. HAIVN has been working to improve the health systems in Vietnam since 2003.

HAIVN, through a cooperative agreement with the US Centers of Disease Control and Prevention (US CDC), provides technical assistance to the Vietnam National HIV program. HAIVN collaborates with the Vietnam Administration for HIV/AIDS Control (VAAC) and provincial Departments of Health to build capacity in HIV prevention, care and treatment, improve the quality of care provided to people living with HIV, scale up antiretroviral therapy, and reach the goal of 95-95-95.

HAIVN is seeking a medical doctor with clinical and public health experience who would be responsible for providing training and technical assistance in HIV prevention, care and treatment to the VAAC and within US CDC supported provinces and clinical sites.

Job Location: This position will be based in Hanoi or HCMC with travel to project sites in Vietnam.

Overall Responsibilities

The Project Coordinator in HIV prevention, care, and treatment will bring clinical and technical expertise to support the priorities of HAIVN, the US CDC, PEPFAR, and the VAAC. S/he will plan project activities and provide technical assistance to partners to support implementation and achievement of project goals.

Specific Responsibilities:

• Provide clinical and technical input to the design and implementation of HAIVN project strategies and activities.
• Provide technical support to the National HIV program in the development of national guidelines, circulars, action plans, and training materials.
• Provide training, clinical mentoring, and technical assistance in HIV prevention, care and treatment to Vietnamese government agencies and to designated clinical sites
• Support the roll-out of pre-exposure prophylaxis (PrEP) in Vietnam through training and through technical assistance to designated health delivery sites.
• Provide training and technical support to health facilities to reduce HIV and KP-related stigma and discrimination and to improve quality of clinical services
• Provide technical support to community partners including community-based organizations (CBOs), social enterprises, and key-population- (KP) led clinics.
• Build capacity of provincial partners (e.g., provincial Centers for Disease Control, and health facilities) for monitoring program quality and addressing gaps when identified.
• Develop and track sub-project work plans and budgets and assist HAIVN partners in the planning, monitoring, and implementation of project activities
• Develop, revise, and adapt training materials, job aides, and patient information materials, etc.
• Contribute to the writing of project reports, technical briefs, success stories, and other communication
• Translate project, curricular, and other materials from English to Vietnamese and vice versa
• Provide English-Vietnamese interpretation in meetings, workshops and trainings as needed.

Required Experience

• Medical Doctorate from Vietnamese Institution
• At least 5 years of experience in HIV care, clinical infectious disease, and/or public health implementation
• Experience working with international donor funded projects

Required Qualifications

• Ability to provide training, mentoring and coaching to health workers and managers
• Ability to write technical documents such as training curricula and slides, operating procedures, and technical briefs.
• Fluency in Vietnamese and English including reading, speaking and writing
• Able to work effectively in a complex international environment
• Well organized and able to handle multiple tasks and changing priorities
• Good computer and information technology skills
• Good interpersonal, communication, and presentation skills
• Able to work both independently and as team member
• Able to work under pressure, to meet deadlines
• Able and willing to travel within Vietnam
• Passionate about empowering clients and community and improving the lives of people living with HIV

Position Type: At least 50% time; Full-Time preferred
