Developing and emerging countries invest billions of euros into long-lived infrastructure. However, future climate conditions are seldom considered systematically in the planning of such infrastructure. This leads to bad investment decisions and consequently to high risks for economic damage in the face of emerging climate change. In accordance with the United Nation’s (UN) Sustainable Development Goals (SDG) and Nationally Determined Contributions (NDC) of Vietnam, the global project Enhancing Climate Services for Infrastructure Investment (CSI) aims to to adapt existing planning procedures and requirements in order to incorporate the utilisation of climate services.This project addresses supply and use of climate services at the same time, bringing together all the actors involved: suppliers, decision makers and engineers. The project supports technically for the suppliers to be able to provide efficient, use-friendly climate products, support for the engineers to be master in climate risk assessment for water infrastructure planning, and support for the decision makers to integrate climate concern into policies related to water infrastructure construction and investment planning. In Viet Nam, the focus of the project is in the Mekong Delta, with case study for climate risk assessment for water infrastructure planning in Kien Giang province.

The CSI is looking for a National Intern to support the project in the Hanoi Project Office with the following conditions:

National Intern
Duty station: Hanoi
Duration: Starting July 2018 to December 2018

Main tasks:

For Project Implementation

  • Provide general administrative and technical support for the project office
  • Support the impact orientated monitoring of the project
  • Support collection of relevant legal documents & policies related to climate change and infrastructure investment
  • Support translation of project documents

For communication

  • Assisting in preparation of PR materials, such as flyers, factsheets
  • Assisting in preparation of letters, and PR materials (EN, VN)
  • Support the project team in the planning and preparation of events, workshops and field trips

Requirement of qualifications

  • Currently undertaking or recently completed postgraduate/bachelor studies in water resource, climate change, coastal geoscience, infrastructure construction, agriculture, environmental economics or other related fields;
  • Strong interest in climate risk assessment for infrastructure investment and planning;
  • Computer literacy and ability to use efficiently the basic Microsoft Office© software (World, Excel, Power Point) and communications tools (internet, email)
  • Good knowledge of English and Vietnamese, written and spoken
  • High self-motivation, soft skills for interpersonal communication and an ability to work independently
  • Open minded and keen to learn and work in a dynamic and intercultural environment
  • Strong interest in networking and international development cooperation

Successful candidate is entitled to a monthly allowance, 24/7 accident insurance and enjoys professional and dynamic working conditions as well as good policies of training and development. The intern will be provided the facilities needed to carry out their tasks, such as office space, access to a laptop, a printer, and a telephone.
