International Seminar Coordinator

Jointly implemented by WUSC and CECI, Uniterra is a volunteer cooperation and international development program which contributes to improving the socio-economic conditions of local communities in 14 countries in Africa, Latin America, the Caribbean and Asia.

In November 2015, an International Seminar (IS) themed “Youth Leaders in Entrepreneurship” will be organized in Hanoi for two and a half weeks with the participation of 24 young entrepreneurs and social innovation leaders from Canada, Vietnam, Sri Lanka and Nepal. The key objectives of the Seminar are to (i) develop participants’ entrepreneurial skills, (ii) increase their knowledge on the employability, social innovation, and job creation of youth in Asia and Canada and (iii) make recommendations on how the Uniterra program can better support young entrepreneurs through its programs.

We are now seeking one (1) Vietnamese IS Coordinator, who will be based at the WUSC office in Hanoi and work closely with the Uniterra team in Vietnam, the Canadian IS Coordinator and Youth Advisor to prepare for this year’s seminar.

Responsibilities:

A. Developing, planning and coordinating the 2015 International Seminar:

  • In collaboration with the Canadian Youth Advisor and IS Coordinator, lead the development and implementation of the 2.5 week 2015 International Seminar;
  • Support the IS team to design a detailed work plan including tasks, responsible persons and dates in order to execute actions necessary for normal implementation of this event;
  • Work closely with Uniterra team in Vietnam, coordinate the necessary logistics and administration required during the International Seminar (e.g. travel, catering, accommodation, etc.);
  • Provide leadership in coordinating the Seminar with key contacts from Uniterra Country teams in Vietnam, Nepal and Sri Lanka (budget, logistics);
  • Promote the Seminar to key actors and partners in Vietnam to raise its profile and recruit potential speakers/workshop facilitators;
  • Support and advise the participants as they prepare their research contributions and presentations required for the Seminar, in part through interactive social media platforms;
  • Provide continuous guidance and seek to empower Seminar participants around managing expectations, intercultural communication, and conflict resolution;
  • Support Seminar participants on a personal level as needed (emotional, cultural, health etc.);

B. Workshop facilitating and knowledge sharing

  • Facilitate workshops, debates and roundtables during the Seminar, in addition to coordinating the sessions, visits and cultural meetings established in the Seminar programming;
  • Determine the required materials for all events and submit for approval by Canada and Vietnam Uniterra teams;
  • Working closely with the Canadian Youth Advisor and IS Coordinator to submit narrative, financial and other required reports before and after the event takes place, including a final systematization report and a debriefing meeting after the seminar.

 

Minimum Requirements:

  • University Degree(s), training or experience in project management, international development, administration, communication or any relevant field;
  • Experience in event organization and management, animation, debates and/or similar roles;
  • Knowledge of employment and youth entrepreneurship programs and experience in the field of youth entrepreneurship and engagement;
  • Experience in group-based facilitation for training and learning;
  • Desirable knowledge of international cooperation, international volunteerism and the concept of equality between women and men;
  • Analysis, synthesis and reaction ability;
  • Research, data collection and information gathering experience;
  • Excellent oral and written skills in English;
  • Ability to work in a team, under pressure and in a context of intercultural relations;
  • Ability to work autonomously, to be flexible and have the ability to adapt and respect different cultures.

Terms and Conditions:

Period: 3.5-month contract

Starting date: September 1st, 2015

Location: Based in Hanoi with occasional travel to the field.

Salary and Benefits: in accordance with Uniterra rules and policies for National Volunteer. Total monthly package is CAD $ 1,130.00
