Coffee Field Coordinator

Location: Based in Buon Ma Thuot city, Dak Lak province with frequent travel to other provinces

SNV has been working in Vietnam since 1995. Using market based approaches, SNV is committed to reducing poverty by catalyzing environmentally sustainable solutions for the poor in agriculture, energy, water & sanitation, and REDD+(Reducing Emissions from Deforestation and Forest Degradation).

SNV coordinates implementation of IDH Sustainable Coffee Program (SCP) in Vietnam. The objective of the IDH Sustainable Coffee Program is to further increase sustainable coffee production in a pre-competitive manner and make coffee farmers more resilient in an ever-changing market. An important focus of the program is to increase production, yields and export availability of sustainably grown coffee. It will also work on the effective implementation of standards, improving access to finance for farmers, and mitigating the effects of climate change. Collectively the partners aim to increase sustainable green coffee sales from the current 8% 25% in 2015. The program implementation phase has began mid-2012 with implementation running until 2016.

For development of the program, SNV has opened a Program Coordination Unit in the Buon Ma Thuot city, Dak Lak province, and is looking for a dynamic and senior candidate to fill in the post of Coffee Field Coordinator.

Responsibilities

- Provide oversight and monitoring to deliver the Program’s activities
- Host stakeholders meetings and consultations to develop overall program work plan, annual activity plans as well as implementation budgets,
- Promote SCP among stakeholders of the coffee industry, including coffee trading and processing companies;
- Develop Request for Funding (RFFs) to IDH/SCP for promotion of sustainable production
- Review application of the field level projects and give recommendation
- Development of database, supervision and monitoring of field level projects
- Provide technical advice and broker the learning to implementers of field level projects
- In coordination with IPSARD and stakeholders to support institutional development of the coffee sector through capacity development for farmer organization, trader organization and the state extension system.
- In coordination with WASI and stakeholders to support for the rejuvenation program
- Coordinate and lead network workshops to support the design of, or identify existing transferable, national coffee sustainability production models and standards and pilot the models and/or standards

Candidate profile
- Vietnamese citizen
- Master degree in Business Administration, Agricultural Business Management, Agricultural Economics
- 7 years of working experience in agro-economics, business management or private sector in Agri-business
- Experience in facilitation of supply chain development with application of sustainable agriculture certification scheme is a must
- Experience working with farmer group and/or coffee development programs is a plus
- Good understanding of field realities; ability to link different professional spheres: business, government, development and funding agencies
- Good network with local government organizations
- Cross cultural skills and management experience of multiple complex tasks.
- Strong facilitation skills and excellent problem solving and analytical skills
- Excellent spoken and written Vietnamese and English
- Good computer skills in MS-applications (Word, Excel, Internet, Email)

Contract Duration: SNV Vietnam offers a one-year part-time associate consultancy contract with possibility of extension.
