Associate Researcher – Climate Smart Agriculture (CSA)

Background

The International Centre for Tropical Agriculture in Asia (CIAT Asia) is implementing the project “Integrated agricultural technologies for enhanced adaptive capacity & resilient livelihoods in climate-smart villages (CSVs) of Southeast Asia”. Project sites are in five locations across Vietnam, Cambodia and Lao PDR. In North Vietnam, the project works in Yen Binh district, Yen Bai province.

The project is seeking an Associate Researcher who will be the focal person in the North Vietnam site and provide general technical support to the research team. This position is primarily based in the field site in Yen Bai with regular short periods spent at the CIAT regional office in Hanoi.

Responsibilities

·         To facilitate participatory research, including assessment-targeting and action learning, for climate-smart agriculture (CSA) technologies and practices in Yen Bai province.
·         To coordinate with local partners and community groups in research planning, implementation, and monitoring and evaluation.
·         To assist in soil and land health surveys for research sites in 5 climate-smart villages of Vietnam, Lao PDR, and Cambodia.
·         To provide general assistance in the overall project management and reporting

Requirements

·         MSc degree preferably in crop science, environmental science, soil science, geography and agriculture-related disciplines;
·         General knowledge on climate change issues in agriculture.
·         At least 2 years of field-based research experience in upland regions of Vietnam;
·         Proven skills in facilitating community-based action learning activities and in interpersonal communications;
·         Excellent verbal and written communication skills in English (IELTS ? 6) and in Vietnamese; and
·         Willingness to be based in the field and to travel locally and internationally.

Terms of Employment
