Over 400 Participants Trained in Mine Clearance for Vietnam-S. Korea Project

A comprehensive mine clearance training session for the Korea - Vietnam Peace Village Project concluded in Hanoi on April 28, providing specialized skills related to over 400 lecturers and students.

Organized by Vietnam National Mine Action Center, the Korea International Cooperation Agency (KOICA), and the United Nations Development Program (UNDP), the training focused on mine-related issues in the central provinces of Quang Ngai, Binh Dinh, and Thua Thien-Hue.

Participants gained expertise in mine clearance, data management, and financial administration to ensure project success.

More Than VND220M Given to Students, People in Vietnam Dien Bien

Head of Na Bung Border Post of Vietnam’s Dien Bien provincial Border Guard Command Lieutenant Colonel Nguyen Dinh Thuan announced on May 1 that the unit has collaborated with a charity unit from Hanoi to hand over more than VND220 million ($9,167) to students of Pa Kha hamlet Kindergarten in Na Bung commune, Nam Po district.

The charity unit has presented more than VND220 million to Pa Kha hamlet Kindergarten. Of the donation, around VND70 million will be allocated to drill a well, and the remaining will be used to buy teaching aid and day-boarding facilities and organize the “Buffet for mountainous hamlet” program for students and parents in Pa Kha hamlet.

Vietnam Binh Duong Build Movement of all People Protecting National Security in Ethnic Minority, Religious Areas

According to Binh Duong’s Provincial Steering Committee No.138, in recent times, the work of building the movement of all people protecting national security in ethnic minority areas and religious areas in the province always receives attention.

Many programs have been summarized, lessons learned, and good practices continued to be promoted.

Specifically, Bac Tan Uyen district organized a preliminary review of the "Peaceful - Civilized Parish" program in Lac An commune; Dau Tieng district held preliminary summary of "Cham Village pioneer team" in Minh Hoa commune.

Three Major ODA-funded Transport Projects in Vietnam Sluggish by End-Apr

Three major transport projects funded by official development assistance (ODA) in Vietnam remained sluggish by the end of April due to slow site clearance, according to the Transport Construction Investment Management Authority under the Ministry of Transport.

Specifically, the Northern Mountain Provinces Transport Connectivity Project, funded by the Asian Development Bank (ADB) and the Australian government, was 11% behind the revised schedule.

Vietnam MoH Urges Prevention as Non-Communicable Disease Deaths Hit 77%

The Vietnamese Ministry of Health has recently asked local authorities to reinforce prevention and control measures against non-communicable diseases and mental health disorders as deaths from non-communicable diseases are estimated to make up to 77% of the total deaths from all causes, local media reported.

The order has been made as the rate of non-communicable diseases screening and early detection remains low and the management and treatment of these illnesses at grassroots healthcare facilities encounters many challenges.

Vietnam MoH Eyes Insurance Expansion for Breast Cancer Screening

In the proposed amendment to the Health Insurance Law, the Vietnamese Ministry of Health has suggested prioritizing the expansion of health insurance coverage for early diagnosis screening of six diseases, with a priority of breast cancer and cervical cancer.

Regarding breast cancer screening, in the impact assessment of the proposed amendment to the Health Insurance Law, the health ministry stated that the average expenditure ranges from VND2.1 trillion to VND5 trillion ($87.5 million-$208.3 million) per year depending on the screening method. However, this cost would significantly decrease if the age group of women eligible for screening is limited.

Vietnam Records 15.5K Dengue Fever Cases, 11.1K HFM Cases in Jan-Apr

Vietnam recorded 15,500 dengue fever cases and 11,100 hand-foot-mouth cases in the first four months of this year, according to the latest figures of the government-run General Statistics Office (GSO).

During the four-month period, the country also logged 149 suspected measles cases, 29 rabies infection (29 deaths), 99 viral encephalitis cases, and 24 poisoning cases with 835 patients (with three deaths).
