Environmental Educator

Frankfurt Zoological Society (FZS) is an international conservation organization (iNGO) based in Frankfurt in Germany. Founded by Prof. Bernhard Grzimek, FZS is committed to preserving wild lands and biological diversity in the last remaining wilderness areas on the planet.

FZS started to support nature conservation program in Vietnam in 1993 with well- known project “Enhancing wildlife conservation in Cuc Phuong National Park”. The project resulted in establishment of the Endangered Primate Rescue Centre in Cuc Phuong National Park. Nowadays, the Centre has successfully rescued and reproduced hundreds of endangered primates in Vietnam. After Cuc Phuong National Park, FZS has supported other national park and nature reserve of Vietnam to protect their rare species and forest habitat such as Van Long Nature Reserve, Cat Ba National Park, Phong Nha – Ke Bang National Park and Kon Ka Kinh National Park.

Position Title : Environmental Educator
Duty Station : Danang City and Gia Lai Province with travel to project site
Reporting to : Project Leader
Contract : 1 year contract with high potential of extension.

1. Tasks to be performed under this contract:

Position Summary

• The FZS project aims to support the Kon Ka Kinh National Park to improve the quality of park management. In order to support the park, the project conducts raising awareness activity on wildlife and forest protection in 7 communes, and 7 secondary schools in the buffer zone of the park. An environmental educator is required to work in the field.

Duties and Responsibility

• Organize and coordinate with local teachers to train and integrate wildlife and forest protection activity in the lessons of pupils at the secondary schools.
• Coordinate with local teachers to organize field trip excursion and in class activity to raise awareness of pupils about the value of national park and wildlife.
• Organize and coordinate with local community to conduct indoor and outdoor activity to raise awareness of local people on protection of endangered species in the park.
• Work closely with environmental educators of the park to share experience and conduct field trip to school children to visit and learn in the park.
• Conduct assessment on attitude change on wildlife and forest protection on local teachers, student and local people on wildlife and forest protection.
• Any other duties as reasonable requested by supervisors and in line with organizational priorities.
• Participate in regular meeting in Danang office ensure the quality of the project administration and financial management undertaken in project sites.

2. Knowledge, Skills, Abilities:

• Minimum Bachelor’s Degree in biology or forestry.
• Relevant Master degree is an advance.
• Knowledge in conservation education.
• At least 3 years’ experience on environmental education.
• Passionate interest in wildlife conservation.
• Knowledge and experience in Coordinating with local people/partners;
• Ability to work with ethnic people.
• Ability to speak, write and read in both English and Vietnamese.
• Ability to travel frequently to project sites.
• Good communication, presentation & negotiation skills.

3. Benefit

• Basic contracted salary: VND 10.000.000 – 12.000.000/ month
• Vietnam Social & Health insurance, Sick leave, Personal leave, Maternity leave and National holidays will be based on Vietnam Labor Law. - Annual leave 12 days/year
