Vietnam to Reduce Learning Contents of Current Academic Year on Coronavirus

In order to reduce the learning time of the ongoing academic year to deal with the Novel Coronavirus (COVID-19) epidemic, Vietnam’s Ministry of Education and Training (MoET) is compiling guidelines about reducing unnecessary learning contents and pushing remote teaching (via television or online methods), state media reported. Minister of Education and Training Phung Xuan Nha made the request at a MoET meeting on March 16. As a result of the reduced contents, the national high school graduation exam will have to adjust its contents and the MoET is compiling sample tests. Earlier, the MoET said that it would not make sample tests because the exam was expected to base on the same format and contents of earlier editions. The national high school exam is one of the most important exams in Vietnam and the results are used for high school graduation, ratings of education in localities, and entrance into higher education or vocational training units. Besides, Mr. Nha ordered the MoET to soon issue guidelines about remote teaching, assistance to non-public schools, upgrade of the MoET’s information technology system, and communications with Vietnamese people learning abroad, among others.
