Vietnam mobilized VND460 trillion ($19.83 billion) for new rural development last year, according to a report by the Ministry of Agriculture and Rural Development (MARD). So far, Vietnam has 5,506 communes recognized as new rural development, up 8% from end-2019. Twelve provinces/cities have all of their communes meeting such criteria. In 2021-2025, the country aims to have 15 more provinces/cities recognized by the Prime Minister as completing the task of building new rural areas. (Ha Noi Moi, Hanoi Moi [1])
