Recruitment of Sports Medical Professional/Doctor Volunteer
Ref: VECO Vietnam Classic Bike Tour 2016
VECO Vietnam is the Vietnamese country office of the Belgian INGO Vredeseilanden. In 2017, as part of fund raising & public awareness activities, VECO Vietnam will host a bike tour with participants coming from Belgium. The tour is expected to take place on April 13-22.The route will start and end in Hanoi passing through the provinces of Phu Tho, Yen Bai, Tuyen Quang, Bac Kan, Hai Phong, and Quang Ninh.
In this context, VECO Vietnam is looking for a qualified Sports Doctor or Medical Professional willing to volunteer and serve as an in-house Medical Doctor/Medical Professional for the tour group.
Specifically, the tasks of this in-house Sports Doctor/Medical Professional are as follows:
- Together with VECO team, make logistical arrangements for the tour, with particular attention on the medical aspects of the tour;
- Make a medical orientation session for the bikers and tour group prior to the start of the tour;
- Accompany the tour group for the whole duration of the tour;
- Check adequacy (quality and quantity) of medical supplies in the first aid kit before, during and shortly after the tour;
- Administer on-site medical treatment (e.g., first aid, wound dressing and stitching, etc.) as necessary to bikers, members of the tour team and accident victims;
- Readiness to provide basic medical services round the clock during the tour (e.g., blood pressure reading, temperature reading, etc.) to the bikers and members of the tour team;
- Coordinate and supervise referral and/orevacuation to a hospital for sick or accident victim; and
- Make a chart of nearby field hospitals, primary and secondary hospitals for serious medical issues, and places where to find vaccines in case of animal bites (dog, snake, etc.) along the route of the tour.
Requirements:
- University or Master Degree in Medical Field, a Sports Doctor is ideal.
- With at least two years of experience in treatment of sports injuries
- Able to travel with a group
- English speaking ability would be an advantage
