Short-term Consultant: Graphic Designer

Project:               USAID Learns

Position:             This position will support the design of new graphics, tools, and resources on theories of change.

I. Background

Social Impact (SI) is implementing the USAID/Vietnam Learns Contract. The scope of the five-year project is to support USAID/Vietnam staff and implementing partners (IPs) to manage more efficient, effective, and transparent programs by improving: (1) USAID and IP’s capacity to achieve expected results; (2) USAID’s understanding and tracking of project performance; and (3) collaborating, learning, & adapting (CLA).

USAID Learns is developing tools on theories of change and requires a graphic designer to help finalize the design of these tools to be user-friendly, visually-appealing, accessible, and in line with USAID branding and marking requirements.

II. Qualifications

The consultant must have the following qualifications: 

• At least 5 years of experience in graphic design. (See this example product [1] as a model for the level of graphic design skill Learns is looking for.)
• Knowledge and experience in user-centered design and advising on the type of products that would be most useful given users / target audience.
• Knowledge and experience in international development and working with USAID is preferred, but not required.
• Familiarity with USAID branding and marking requirements a plus.
• The ability to maintain high-quality work with tight deadlines, including adapting to client requests in coordination with Learns.
• Excellent professionalism, including focus, judgment, and discretion. 
• Professional proficiency in writing, reading, and speaking English.

III. Tasks

Note that the exact products that the graphic designer supports will be determined based on initial consultations with the designer. Possibilities include:

• Develop graphics that can be used in the theory of change product suite
• Graphically design agreed upon resources, likely to include :
• A theory of change workbook that guides users through the process of developing a theory of change following a step by step process. As users will likely use this work book in Google Docs, the graphic designer will most likely need to make this a very user-friendly and visually pleasing Google Doc.
• A companion resource that provides tips and information related to theories of change. This resource can eventually be shared as a PDF so can be created in InDesign or other graphic design software.
• Additional tools / resources as required within the estimated LOE.

Time frame: within four months from start of the assignment

LOE: Up to 90 hours (only actual time spent is billable).
