SNV has been working in Vietnam since 1995. Using market based approaches, SNV is committed to reducing poverty by catalyzing environmentally sustainable solutions for the poor in agriculture, energy, water & sanitation, and REDD+.
For Vietnam and Lao PDR, which contain large areas of degraded forest the issue of forest carbon stock enhancement should be an integral part of any National REDD+ Strategy. This project aims to advance understanding of forest carbon stock enhancement as part of any REDD+ Strategy through exploring the technical and economic feasibility of different forest carbon stock enhancement strategies in pilot sites, across Vietnam and Lao PDR. The project will be carried out in close partnership with VNFORESTs.
SNV is seeking a highly qualified candidate to manage the project in Vietnam.
Responsibilities:
- Engage closely and provide support to our national partners; this includes working on project permissions and any technical advice concerning the project
- Supervise project activities in Vietnam; and in collaboration with the Project Manager ensure achievement of overall project results and objectives and attainment of indicators
- Provide high level advisory services to the project; in particular around forest restoration and forest carbon stock enhancement
- Timely preparation and submission of work-plans, reports, budgets and other deliverables to the Project Manager
- Manage field officer based in Ca Mau Province
- Work in close collaboration with consultants and ensure delivery of quality services
- Provide input into the National REDD+ Working Groups and sub- Technical Groups, providing frequent updates on the project
- Liaise with relevant and likeminded projects and initiatives
- Profiling and positioning of the project through documentation and dissemination of good practices
Candidate profile:
- Master’s Degree in Forestry
- Eight years of relevant experience in forestry, forest restoration and forest carbon/REDD+.
- Has proven track record of managing complex projects and staff
- Experience in Project Cycle Management including Financial Management
- Experience in managing complex forestry and livelihood projects
- Up- to-date knowledge on forest carbon and REDD+, and knowledge of the related situation in Vietnam
- Strong leadership and management skills
- Excellent interpersonal and oral and written communication skills (English and Vietnamese)
- Demonstrated and proven record to work in a multidisciplinary team under changeable and complex circumstances
- Good computer skills in MS-applications (Word, Excel, Internet, Email, Power Points)
Contract Duration: SNV Vietnam offers a one-year associate consultancy contract with the possibility of extension and a competitive salary package.
Desired start date: February/March 2012
