Agriterra ( www.agriterra.org [1] ) is a leading cooperative development organization providing services to its clients worldwide. Our main goal is to support cooperatives to be farmer-led organization, providing better services to its members and influence the change of policy enabling environment for cooperative development.
Vietnam Cooperative Alliance (VCA) is the national apex organization representing and linking all cooperatives in Vietnam. It renders professional support services to the cooperatives as well as implementing viable and effective economic activities to steer and strengthen the movement. By so doing, it hopes to develop for the nation a strong and sustainable socio-economic foundation based on cooperation, solidarity, and community development free from poverty. It has 68 provincial offices, representing 12,000 cooperatives and linking 2,400,000 households.
In 2017 the MOU was signed between VCA and Agriterra to establish a framework for jointly implementing a comprehensive capacity building program for members of VCA’s cooperatives.
During 2018 and 2019 series of support activities were implemented, including TOT for VCA staff members on the topics of Value Creation and Strategic Business Planing as well as learning from international experience on cooperative development, improvement of cooperative law and the role of representative organisations for cooperatives.
Early in 2020, the COVID 19 outbreak has had a significant detrimental impact on production and business activities throughout the country. For many businesses, the value chain has been discrupted, consumer markets have tightened and bankruptcies have escalated. To combat the effects of this pandemic, the government has provided support packages to businesses to help them to overcome the tough times. But for the longer term, agricultural insurance is also one of the solutions to help businesses and cooperatives to manage this kind of crisis.
Agriterra is looking for a consultant to research and analyse Agricultural insurance in agri-cooperatives on both demand and supply sides, including banks, insurance companies, financial institutions and financiers; and to provide recommendations for suitable agri-insurance packages for agri-cooperatives in 3 sectors: coffee, rice and safe vegetables in the North and Center of Vietnam including Quang Nam, Dak Lak, Hue, Nam Dinh and Hai Duong provinces wherever Agriterra has been active, please refer to attached TOR [2] for more detail information.
