Training in lung disease research: 5th to 11th March 2017 in Phu Quoc, Vietnam
The Vietnam Integrated Center for TB and Respirology Research (VICTORY), the Vietnam National Tuberculosis Program, the Woolcock Institute of Medical Research at the University of Sydney and the American Thoracic Society (ATS) and our partners are pleased to announce the 2017 MECOR course in Vietnam and invite participants from Vietnam, Cambodia and Laos.
This is a one week full-time course in research methods and evidence-based medicine for lung disease designed for clinicians, public health and academic staff at all stages of their careers. The course will be led by experienced international and local faculty.
The course participants will learn to develop a testable research question, understand the various study design options for finding the answers to these questions, learn to set up studies and develop an understanding of introductory statistics. They will also learn the skills necessary to critically assess research papers.
The course is conducted in English. It is conducted in a very interactive manner. Students are expected to participate actively in the classes. They will work in small groups on exercises and, over the course of the week, will develop and present a research protocol. There is a high faculty to student ratio to provide guidance throughout this process.
Target Audience
This course is appropriate for clinicians, public health practitioners and researchers engaged lung health-related activities in Vietnam, Laos, and Cambodia who wish to improve their skills in clinical research and investigation. No prior experience with research is needed.
Cost of attending
For selected participants who are employed in the Vietnam, Cambodian or Laotian health, government or university system or by local NGOs we will offer scholarships covering most of the cost of accommodation, meals, and tuition as well as travel costs. A co-payment of USD 200 will be required from those participants who receive a scholarship. Participants employed by international governments, NGOs or private industry will not be eligible for a scholarship and, therefore, will be required to pay the full cost.
Participants do not need to any prior knowledge of research methods for this first course. However, participation in the higher level MECOR courses and other activities will require successful completion of this course.
