Background
SNV in cooperation with the Hung Cuong Tea Company (HCTC) undertake a project in support to a production unit and its surrounded commune of 680 tea producers in Cao Bo, Ha Giang Province. This project is co-financed by the Vietnam Challenge Fund and started in September 2010.
To strengthen the advisory team of SNV, a consultant for a period of up to 3 months is sought. The consultant will be based at the premises of HCTC.
Tasks
The consultant will be the local representative of SNV, and will cooperate with the team of SNV advisors who are based in Hanoi, i.e. Mr. Paul Weijers (programme leader), Ms. Pham Ngoc Tram (senior advisor) and Mr. Nguyen Quoc Tuan (junior advisor).
The cooperation covers the overall project monitoring and direct involvement in the two, out of the four main areas of the project, i.e.
1. Formation and strengthening of collectives of farmers
2. Development of certified organic tea production and branding for the Cao Bo Tea

Requirements:
The consultant should meet the following requirements:
- Have solid experience in working with farmer groups or being engaged in rural development for a minimum of 3 years
- Be able and willing to be posted at location in Ha Giang Province
- Has basic knowledge on value chain development methods
- Preferably has knowledge of and experience of working in the tea sector.
- Strong computers skills are mandatory, as are strong written and oral communications skills, including fluency in Vietnamese and English;
Time schedule
The assignment can be taken up immediately and will last for a period of 2 to 3 months.
