Vietnam, U.S. Complete Dioxin Detoxification in Danang

Vietnam and the U.S. completed the remediation of dioxin contamination in the central city of Danang on November 7, handing over 13.7 hectares of land to the Ministry of Transport for the project of expanding the Danang airport, state media reported. The announcement event had the participation of Senior Lieutenant General Nguyen Chi Vinh, Deputy Minister of National Defense, Deputy Minister of Transport Le Dinh Tho, the U.S. Ambassador to Vietnam Daniel Kritenbrink, and representatives of the USAID, the JICA, the KOICA, and the UNDP. The total investment in the project is $110 million, contributed by both the U.S. and Vietnam. The U.S. government also commits to conducting similar project at Bien Hoa airport in the southern province of Dong Nai, as part of a move to boost the bilateral ties with Vietnam.
