Vietnam Seeks USAID’s Support for Just Energy Transition

Vietnamese Deputy Minister of Natural Resources and Environment Le Cong Thanh has proposed the United States Agency for International Development (USAID) support Vietnam in the just energy transition, local media reported.

Mr. Thanh made the proposal while working with the USAID’s Mission Director for Vietnam Aler Grubbs on May 30.

The Vietnamese official also expressed his hope that the two sides would find initiatives to change energy policies in the Mekong region, focusing on reducing hydropower investment, while promoting renewable energy sources such as wind and solar power.

For her part, Ms. Grubbs noted that USAID is very interested in the implementation of the Just Energy Transition Partnership (JETP) and the National Power Development Plan (PDP) VIII in Vietnam. She added that the U.S. has programs and projects to complement Vietnam’s JETP deployment. (Bao Tai Nguyen Moi Truong)
