Vietnam Launches First International Trauma Life Support Training Center

Vietnam launched International Trauma Life Support (ITLS) Training Center at Military Hospital 175, operated under the Ministry of National Defense, in Hanoi on April 15, marking the first facility in Vietnam and the fifth of its kind in Southeast Asia, local media reported.

Major General Tran Quoc Viet, director of Military Hospital 175, highlighted that the establishment of the ITLS training center was prompted by the necessity for medical personnel participating in United Nations peacekeeping missions to possess globally recognized trauma life support certifications. In response to this requirement, the Vietnam Department of Peacekeeping Operations, in conjunction with U.S. partners, has been administering ITLS training courses and instructor development programs for Military Hospital 175 staff since 2022.

After 15 months of rigorous training, as of January, Military Hospital 175 had certified 110 individuals. This included 34 personnel from Level 2 Field Hospital 5, 47 medical staff from Military Hospital 175 itself, and 29 individuals from various military units.

Lieutenant General Phung Si Tan, deputy chief of the General Staff of the Vietnam People's Army, stated that with the country's first International Trauma Life Support Training Center, Vietnam will proactively train and certify military medical personnel to meet the United Nations' requirements for peacekeeping forces as well as civilian healthcare professionals within and outside the military.

The center will also develop an internationally standardized team of instructors and implement procedures to support Military Hospital 103, under the Military Medical Academy, in becoming Vietnam's second International Trauma Life Support Training Center, he added.(Tin Tuc, Vietnam Plus English)
