Vietnam Health Minister, USAID Seek to Enhance Cooperation

Vietnamese Minister of Health Dao Hong Lan held discussions with Ms. Aler Grubbs, Mission Director for Vietnam at the United States Agency for International Development (USAID), on April 9 to explore collaboration between the two sides, local media reported.

During the meeting, Minister Lan expressed sincere appreciation for the support, companionship, and assistance provided by USAID to the Vietnamese healthcare sector over time, while highlighting that healthcare cooperation has been a bright spot in the collaborative relationship between Vietnam and the United States over the years.

She concurred with USAID's suggestion to promptly initiate the drafting of a memorandum of understanding between the Ministry of Health and USAID, aiming to speed up the establishment of a long-term partnership in the healthcare sector following the Joint Statement on Elevating the Vietnam-U.S. Relationship to a Comprehensive Strategic Partnership for Peace, Cooperation, and Sustainable Development signed by the two governments in September 2023.

In response, Ms. Aler Grubbs reaffirmed USAID's commitment to supporting the continued advancement of Vietnam's healthcare sector.

She underscored that USAID has fostered a longstanding cooperative relationship with the Ministry of Health and various healthcare sectors through numerous healthcare programs.
