Vietnam HCMC May Aid $323M to 7.5M Disadvantaged People after Sep 15

The Department of Labor, War Invalids, and Social Affairs in Vietnam’s COVID-19 epicenter Ho Chi Minh City (HCMC) has sought approval from the municipal People’s Committee to launch the third aid package worth VND7.5 trillion ($323 million) in support of around 7.5 million disadvantaged people in the city after September 15, local media reported. The department suggested giving each person in need VND1 million in cash or via bank transfer. Those who are eligible for the relief package will comprise people poor and near-poor households and needy and unemployed individuals. Earlier, HCMC launched two relief packages worth VND4.36 trillion in total, from which over 1.36 million non-contract workers and 1.04 million deprived families benefited.
