Vietnam Hanoi Targets 80% of Child Mental Health Support in 2023-2030

Vietnam’s Hanoi is striving to ensure that 80% of children with mental health concerns, as well as those at high risk of mental health disorders, have access to counseling, psychological support, and appropriate social services at schools, medical facilities, social support centers, and within the community from 2023 to 2030.

The goal is set in the municipal authorities’ Plan 66/KH-UBND regarding the implementation of programs for caring for the mental health of children and caring for orphaned children in the city during the 2023-2030 period.

The city is set to to ensure that 100% of orphaned children receive attention and access to care, support, and legal assistance when needed an 100% of orphaned children without caregivers or with only one parent will be cared for by suitable guardians, individuals, or non-relative families who become foster parents or provide temporary care, as per regulations.

The plan delineated eight tasks, including the enforcement of laws and policies concerning mental health care for children and comprehensive care for orphaned children, with an emphasis on family-based alternatives. It underscored the importance of promoting awareness of mental health care and orphaned children's welfare across all sectors and communities. Furthermore, it stressed the necessity of improving training and capacity-building for personnel at various levels and in diverse sectors, while also focusing on continuous development of mental health care services and inter-agency coordination for the well-being of children and orphaned children.
