Vietnam Disburses $11.2M for Education Projects in Jan-May, Down 25.8%: GSO

Vietnam disbursed an estimated amount of VND233 billion ($11.2 million) worth of state funds for education and training projects in the first five months of 2013, meeting 33.4% of the whole-year target, according to the General Statistics Office (GSO). The figure represented a fall of 25.8% from a year earlier, the government-run office added. In May, the country disbursed VND58 billion worth of state funds for these projects, compared to VND53 billion in April, the GSO said. Economists have recently warned of low disbursement of projects in the education and training sector. They also called on the government to work out measures to attract more investments in the sector. Vietnam’s education sector remains quite problematic due to a lack of proper development policy, educators said, citing problems related to the quantity and quality of the teaching staff, material facilities, textbooks and curriculum. ?(GSO May Edition)
