USAID Support to End Tuberculosis in Vietnam Khanh Hoa

Vietnam’s Khanh Hoa Tuberculosis and Lung Diseases Hospital held a workshop to review the activities of the USAID - SET Project in ending tuberculosis in 2023 and implementing activities in the province for the 2024-2025 period.

The project has been implemented in the province since October 2022, benefiting six units including: Ninh Hoa Medical Center, Van Ninh Medical Center, Dien Khanh Medical Center, Provincial General Hospital, Ninh Diem Regional General Hospital, and Ninh Hoa Regional General Hospital.

In 2023, with the support of the project and existing provincial models, the health sector conducted tuberculosis detection activities in communities and healthcare facilities for over 34,700 individuals, identifying more than 3,750 suspected tuberculosis cases, conducting in-depth tests for 522 confirmed cases, with nearly 470 individuals receiving treatment. Additionally, the distribution of tuberculosis treatment drugs was implemented in 101 communes and wards across six districts and cities.

For the 2024-2025 phase, the USAID - SET Project will focus on supporting activities including: enhancing the capacity of the tuberculosis prevention and treatment system and the quality of drug-resistant tuberculosis treatment; strengthening tuberculosis case detection, latent tuberculosis, and childhood tuberculosis; mobilizing local budgets for these activities and conducting tuberculosis screening through health insurance; communication and raising community awareness.

The USAID - SET Project, funded by the United States Agency for International Development (USAID), is implemented by the International Family Health Organization (FHI 360).
