Poverty Rate in Vietnam Falls Below 3% in 2020: PM Nguyen Xuan Phuc

The multidimensional poverty rate in Vietnam this year is likely to have dropped below 3%, from nearly 10% in 2015, Prime Minister Nguyen Xuan Phuc delivered a report on social situation, at the opening meeting of the National Assembly’s tenth working session on October 20. Social insurance coverage has increased over 1.3 times compared to 2015, accounting for nearly 33% of the workforce by 2020. By far, nearly 1.4 million people with meritorious services have enjoyed monthly subsidies. The network of preventive medicine and grassroots health system have been reinforced, and teleheath has helped connect nearly 30 centrally-run hospitals with over 1,200 medical facilities nationwide. The rate of people buying health insurance jumped from 76.5% in 2015 to 90.7% this year. Universalization of kindergarten education has been fulfilled, and online learning has been widely adopted, especially amid the social distancing period.
