JICA Helps Vietnam Develop Human Resources for Water Sector

The Japan International Cooperation Agency (JICA) has held a conference to review a Japan-funded project on enhancing human resource capacity for the water sector in central Vietnam. Kick-started in Aug 2010, the three-year project targeted to help 18 water companies in the central region ensure safe and stable water supply for local residents. The project’s major partner, a training center in Hue city, has been provided with adequate skills and equipment to develop short-term training courses for local water companies. The project also organized training trips and seminars in Japan for leaders of participating companies to increase their awareness of the importance of human resource development. Accordingly, five leading companies have completed theirs plans of safe water supply, human resource development and operation manuals while the Hue-based centre succeeded in building a cooperation model with Thua Thien-Hue Water Supply and Construction Company, which will be maintained and expanded after the project ends. The JICA has supported Vietnam’s water sector, particularly in human resource development, over the past ten years. (Cong An Nhan Dan – People’s Police May 29, vov.vn May 29)
