Japan Pledges Further Support for Vietnam Healthcare Sector

The Japan International Cooperation Agency (JICA) has pledged to provide further assistance for Vietnam’s healthcare sector to improve services for local residents. The statement was made at a forum on Vietnam-Japan health cooperation held in the capital city of Hanoi on May 15. Japan’s support aims to enhance the comprehensive healthcare system in Vietnam through ensuring locals’ access to both central-level and local hospitals. Earlier in April, Health Minister Nguyen Thi Kim Tien met with JICA representatives to discuss healthcare cooperation projects and to share experiences in preventing infectious diseases. Japan is one of biggest donors for Vietnam’s healthcare projects. It has funded $60 million for upgrading Hanoi-based Bach Mai Hospital, $24 million for HCM City-based Cho Ray Hospital and $27 million for the Hue Central Hospital. (Dau Tu – Investment May 15 p2)
