Hanoi Authorities, Vietnam Army to Jointly Fix Problems of Rang Dong Fire

Hanoi authorities, Vietnam’s Ministry of Natural Resources and Environment (MoNRE), and the chemical unit of the Vietnam People’s Army are setting up the plan to detoxify the area around the fire of the warehouse of Rangdong Light Source and Vacuum Flask JSC (HOSE: RAL), state media reported. Earlier, Prime Minister Nguyen Xuan Phuc asked the Hanoi People’s Committee to work with the MoNRE to fix the problems. The tasks include (i) fixing the damages, ensuring the safety of nearby people, investigating the cause, handling violations (if any), and (ii) relocating plants with environmental pollution or plants with potential environmental risks out of the urban or crowded areas. Mr. Nguyen Duc Chung, chairman of Hanoi People’s Committee, asked the municipal police to soon delegate the scene to RAL to collect and deal with the spillover, cooperate with the army’s chemical units to detoxify, and to soon relocate the plants to suitable locations. He also asked Thanh Xuan districts and the municipal authorities to soon publish information to of the people. Besides, he ordered Hanoi Sewerage and Drainage Limited Company to deploy and complete projects around the warehouse in 2019, the Hanoi’s Department of Health to make free health checks for kids. Meanwhile, local media keeps on criticizing the authorities for inconsistent information about the event. The local newswire Dan Tri (Dan Tri) noted that the ward issued warnings but later the district rejected such warnings. Besides, RAL noted that the chemicals are non-toxic amalgam but the investigation showed the 15.1 kilograms-27.2 kilograms of mercury leaked out.
