Banks in Vietnam Spend VND2.3T to Build Houses, Aid Poor People Since 2018

Banks in Vietnam have so far spent as much as VND2.3 trillion ($99.14 million) since 2018 to build thousands of houses and support the poor via social security and welfare programs implemented nationwide, state media reported. The figures were released at a conference between Deputy Governor Dao Minh Tu of the State Bank of Vietnam (SBV), the country’s central bank, and Ms. Truong Thi Ngoc Anh, vice president of the Vietnam Fatherland Front (VFF) Central Committee, late last week to review the outcomes of programs to aid the poor in 2018-2019. Of the figure, banks had spent VND2 trillion on building roughly 5,000 houses and granted VND300 billion to aid the poor who are affected by natural disasters and hurt by the coronavirus pandemic (COVID-19). Also, the SBV and the VFF’s Central Committee are slated to hold a televised program titled “the Whole nation joins hands for the poor” in 2020 on October 17, this year.
