25% of Vietnamese People Have Cardiovascular Disease: Association

A quarter of the Vietnamese population suffer from cardiovascular disease and hypertension, according to research by the Vietnam National Heart Association. The information was revealed at a press conference of the 17th Vietnam National Congress of Cardiology in the capital city of Hanoi on October 14. In recent years, hypertension patients in Vietnam have been getting younger and younger, including many people of working age. Currently, under-40-year-old people with hypertension account for 20% of the total hypertension patients in the country, said Associate Professor Pham Manh Hung, Director of the Vietnam National Heart Institute. Vietnam records more than 200,000 deaths from cardiovascular disease annually, accounting for 30% of the country’s annual deaths. The number doubles that of deaths from cancer each year.
