By providing a mix of technical assistance and volunteer expert support, IESC works with emerging industries, financial institutions, and governments to stabilize economic environments, increase opportunity, and promote growth. We have completed over 25,000 projects in more than 130 countries worldwide.

IESC is the implementing organization of Linkages for Small and Medium Enterprises Project funded by the United States Agency for International Development (USAID), in short USAID LinkSME. The project links Vietnamese small and medium enterprises (SMEs) with lead firms in order to integrate SMEs into manufacturing supply chains and accelerate domestic SME growth. The USAID LinkSME project will create systemic changes in business relationships between Vietnamese SMEs and lead firms, as well as significant increases in the quantity and/or quality of business linkages between Vietnamese SMEs and lead firms.

IESC is seeking a Translator/Interpreter for the USAID LinkSME project.

Under the direction of the Finance and Administration Team Lead, the Translator/Interpreter will work full-time and be based in Hanoi, ensuring that all program-related documents are professionally translated, and that verbal communications in meetings are professionally interpreted, both consecutively and simultaneously.

DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES:

Specific responsibilities include, but are not limited to:

  • Providing accurate and timely translation of technical and administrative documents from English into Vietnamese and from Vietnamese into English, as required;
  • Interpreting for meetings as required, from English into Vietnamese and from Vietnamese into English, including meetings related to technical topics that relate to the implementation of the LinkSME project and meetings between project staff and Government of Vietnam personnel;
  • Traveling within Vietnam to accompany project staff to sites or meetings where interpretation is required;
  • Operating translation equipment;
  • Attending staff meetings, planning and preparation meetings, and performing other duties as required, consistent with LinkSME Project objectives and technical skills of the position; and
  • Handling confidential information appropriately.

QUALIFICATIONS:

  • Education: Bachelor’s linguistic-related degree required; Advance linguistic-related degree preferred.
  • Experience working with the Government of Vietnam, businesses sectors in Vietnam, or ODA projects in Vietnam is preferred, and the ability to work collaboratively with all project counterparts and project staff is required;
  • Ability to produce professional quality, accurate and efficient relay interpretation required;
  • Ability to produce professional quality policy and regulatory legal document translations from English to Vietnamese and vice-versa is required;
  • Translation/interpretation experience in both the law and economic fields is preferable;
  • At least five years of English-Vietnamese language translation and interpretation experience, preferably in a government or business office setting;
  • Language Skills: Excellent/fluent written and spoken English and Vietnamese required. Regional local language familiarity is a plus.
