Background
In collaboration with the National Tuberculosis Programme (NTP) of Vietnam, KNCV is conducting a baseline assessment of tuberculosis (TB)-related stigma in Vietnam in 2023. The assessment will draw on qualitative research methods to examine how TB-related stigma is experienced by different groups (including TB patients, their family members, community members and health staff) across the country.
KNCV is seeking an experienced social scientists / project coordinator to oversee the conduct of the baseline assessment. The position is available for a period of six months, on a part-time basis and will involve travel during three months of data collection (September – November 2023).
Purpose of the position and organizational position
The position is aimed at supporting the Country Representative Officer (CRO) in coordinating and managing the implementation of the baseline assessment of tuberculosis (TB)-related stigma in Vietnam. The position reports directly to the Country Representative Officer.
Main Activities and Responsibilities
The post-holder is expected to:
- Provide guidance to the data collectors through all phases of the assessment including site selection, participant selection, and data collection.
- Ensure compliance with the assessment protocol and standard operating procedures and through ongoing quality control
- Conduct a desk review of current research and policies/guidelines regarding tuberculosis-related stigma in Vietnam
- Conduct a focus group discussion with key policy makers
- Support project leads in finalizing study tools
- Travel to study locations across Vietnam to oversee the sampling and recruitment of study participants as outlined in the study protocol and SOPs
- Supervise the processing of qualitative data, including the taking/translation of detailed notes and transcription and translation of audio-recordings
- To supervise and undertake in-depth interviews and focus group discussions as described in the study protocol
- To support qualitative data analysis
Person specification

Essential criteria
- MSc level qualification in social or health sciences or equivalent experience
- Relevant experience in qualitative social science and/or public health research
- Prior experience of conducting key informant interviews with community members and/or policymakers and/or managers and focus group discussions
- Practical experience supporting research projects and teams
- Evidence of contributions to written outputs, preferably peer-reviewed
- Excellent interpersonal skills, including the ability to communicate effectively both orally and in writing
- Ability to use initiative and judgement to anticipate potential issues and solve problems
- Ability to work independently, as well as collaboratively as part of a research team
- Evidence of good organizational skills, including effective time and people management, and a high level of personal motivation and flexibility
- Excellent knowledge of Vietnamese and English
Desirable criteria
- Knowledge of the national tuberculosis programme in Vietnam
- Some experience of supervising and supporting data collectors
- Some experience with qualitative analysis software
- Ability to deliver effective presentations
